SEACOM downtime continues

The SEACOM cable was built to last 25 years. At PRESENT it relies on one cable for onward connection, but many new cables will come online by the end of 2010. Once that happens it will be truly interconnected and useful.

Why do you think all ISP's didn't suddenly switch a year ago?

Yes. I remember one of the reasons cited in the beginning of this year for Seacom having a slow impact on change in SA was that there was no redundancy yet.

axxess working with saix proxy

Hey guys we are using axxess and changed it over to the sat3 this morning but browsing the net was horrible put cache.saix.net:8080 as my proxy and it works perfectly now, strange though being IS customer i shouldn’t be able to use their proxy i couldn’t yesterday.

depending on the ISP there may be some limited seacom capacity coming back online ... it's not been signed off as stable yet but there's bits flowing ;-)

From Seacom: Good news! Repairs to SEA-ME-WE 4 cable successfully completed – Final traffic restoration taking place this morning. We just received news that SEACOM customers are already restored & we expect traffic to be restored by mid-morning GMT

Mweb has restricted all p2p activity since the seacom saga began .... any idea when they will lift the restriction?
