I gotta say, considering how cheap Seacom bandwidth is supposed to be, this isn't a great price. It's only slightly less than I've been paying for ages (R47 / gig vs R53 / gig).
SEACOM wholesale bandwidth was supposed to be one-tenth the cost of Telkom, although apparently ISP's were only gonna get it at a 30% saving from the likes of NEOTEL, that still amounts to around R15-R20 per Gig, surely??? OK, they still gotta make a profit, so let's say R25 - R30 per Gig is what they should be charging us!!!

R53 per GB? I wish I could pay R53 per GB. I pay R389 for 2GB (R194.50 per GB) with HSDPA. Even if Vodacom charged R100 per GB I would be very happy, I could get 5GB for R500.

Been waiting for 3 years for a Telkom line
No Neotel coverage
iBurst coverage is not very good

HSDPA is my only option.

Yep, we can all really say well done to SEACOM. They have fulfilled their part of the commitment by bringing broadband to Africa. The question is however: Are our local ISP's going to fulfill their part of the commitment(if any) to bring SEACOM's broadband from the landing stations to our homes and offices?

It's seems as if it's just us techie guys in here that knows about the launch of SEACOM. The South African press and ISP's seems very quiet at the moment

They held up their part of developing the country.
My concern is with their partner Neotel and of course Telkom!!

Neotel force you into a 2 year contract!
This is ABSURD! No one should have to face this form of financial pressure in a volatile economy. Any ISP that does not offer a month to month basis should be boycotted! Come on people - WAKE UP! A contract is only forced on you when that provider is not certain of their longivity and screw to to ensure it for them and that they do not really have to care about you the consumer because you will have to pay them for the full period whether you get good service or not!!!!!

I simply cannot understand the SA consumer who is happy with caps! You should get UNCAPPED and thats it! These people obviously have so much money to waste its scary and their attitude is what these ISP Moguls use to screw the really hard working sector of our community! It could also be that they use very little internet access, and have no need for downloading games, dvd's, programs and the like or use the internet only for mail - OMG!!!

For years I wanted decent Internet, like my overseas counterparts. Today is the first day SA joins the rest of the Internet world. What are you guys going to do with all your bandwidth? For me, not worrying about a cap, and paying so much less, is why I'm excited.

And prolly won't for a while... but it's the start so i'm excited for the "FUTURE"
