SEACOM price cuts will take time

Agree with all the comments about the "journalism" on this site. More a case of "cheap paid for advertising".
 
What are you people going on about? nothing is going to change in a hurry....not in this place. yay the new cable is live so what? consumers are not going to see anything of it till way after 2010, if at all. The only reason why the cable is live is for 2010 here thats it.
 
Please, MyBroadband, these articles are repetative, we hear the same thing over, and over and over again, it's driving me insane.

Explain to me how this is relevant? If one cable that claims its wholesale price is up to 90% cheaper won't bring prices down, why will the others bring prices down?

Are you trying to say, move along now, Seacom is here but we are going to rip you off as usual. Wait for WACS and EASSy...

The cable won't be fully used, if the prices don't drop. People won't just buy more bandwith, because there is a new cable.

Yeah DJK, I agree....WTF is up with that? Are you telling me that saving money on international access now means they HAVE to spend loads and loads of cash on local infrastructure upgrades and marketing, otherwise it's all useless?!?!? So in other words no matter how much less the locals telecoms. spend on international bandwidth it'll always balance out with increased spending on local expenses.... This is BS!!! :mad::mad::mad:

Another excellent article from the guys who brought you the same crappy article as the one before it!

Enough about my favourite friend "Staff Writer"...

Mr Briggs needs to go back and sort a few issues out.

1) I bought my own modem (mainly because the one that telkom issues is a generation or two behind)... so my modem is not built into my ISP costs.

2) I thought telkom gets it's cash from the "line rental" for the infrastructure. Since other ISP's are still farting around with license issues, no-one else has "last mile" infrastructure costs that are directly built in to the consumer's retail package.

3) The ISP I use does very little marketing in the "mainstream media". I haven't heard/seen a single "webafrica" ad anywhere else besides the odd south african website.

4) The most competitively priced ISP will get my business... plain and simple. All I have to do to change ISPs TOMORROW is
  • stop payment
  • enter C/card or banking details to new ISP
  • Change USER/PASS
So I WILL CHANGE TO THE CHEAPEST OPTION IN LESS THAN A HEARTBEAT... no doubt about it.
I don't think I'm the only one either.

Senor "Staff Writer" is missing one of those parameters... and it's the "journalist" bit. He's definitely "techno-savvy" since all he/she EVER does is COPY-PASTE.

Come on! Issues like this need to be ON THE FRONT PAGE of every newspaper! Right next to the issues surrounding car prices and petrol costs!
People need to be made aware of the issues surrounding the cost of their telecommunications.
See what happened with the cellular providers/Idols/ICASA.
If the RIGHT people make the RIGHT kind of noise... some things actually can get moving in the right direction.

Unfortunately... it's articles like this that covers Mr. Brigg's behind... Of coarse he doesn't want to lower his prices! He'll tell you that they're still getting their wholesale bandwidth at X to keep their prices high! But if iBurst consumers are made aware of their RIDICULOUS pricing discrepancies... then they'll move to another wireless provider.
One without built in modem costs
One without built in market costs (ROFL)
One without built in costs for their own sub standard last mile infrastructure.

I think Mr Biggs is full of brown stuff..... Looks like IBurst will be one of the companies who will try to cash in on past broadband prices for as long as they possibly can while they line their pockets with new international tariffs... and this literary piece of rubbish is the sugar coating they need to implement way before hand.

Like we all didnt know this was going to happen .... another Neoflex .. just rubbish .. why doesnt Seacom stand up with a SAT3 vs Seacom Price comparison to shine some light on these sharks, so we can see how much they save and how much extra they pocket ...

Like I said in a previous post on another thread, WHY dont we have SEACOM making statements to keep us informed of whether or not we can actually expect cost cuts .. this is all SPECULATION .. which lets face it ... is rubbish..

I can tell you one thing, if ISP's dont start dropping prices, I can see a serious market for smaller ISP's who will .. so lets start one .. whos with me .. ?

We will let other innovators set the price point. You can rot in hell.

BTW, SAT3 and SAFE are the redundancy for Seacom... that makes sense... Seacom doesn't need redundancy because there is already a cable in place. What a stupid statement. Doesn't mean they still have to use SAT3 for their primary link? Why would they do that when Seacom is so much lower in price? What a tool.

also BTW.... how come MyBroadband was shoving all those "Seacom will save us" articles down our throats for so long... and now they are switching to this line of reporting? Whatever happened to the hard-hitting journalism and investigative reporting?
