Seacom progress report

Lets hope the Somalian pirates don't capture the boat and cable!

They won't. And if they do, they'll have an army of supremely pissed MyBroadband users to contend with.

I am glad they keep communicating their progress. It shows that when good management is in place things just work.

well done Seacom!! ...a ray of hope! :)

unfortunately:

Also speaking at the conference was Dr Angus Hay, CTO of Neotel. He stated that from their side going live in June is a realistic expectation.

Note that Neotel did not state if it's June 2009 or 2015....

From past experience there is absolutely no reason to believe Neotel will fulfil this expectation timeously. :(

SEACOM is indeed a refreshing company/project to deal with. Great communication, regular update reports – giving facts about exactly what has happened – and pricing up-front. Very encouraging to see this kind of project in the telecoms space.

yup, exactly what i am thinking, neotel + doc are really bad with timelines

I agree. Now that Neotel has said that "June is a realistic expectation" there is no way it will happen...damn you Neotel why do you jinx this if you had just kept quiet it would've been here in June!

Like the other poster said...it will happen in June....just not June 2009:rolleyes:

I see the Seacom article generator is working beautifully.

Indeed.

Fantastic. Their continued communication and progress updates is a breath of fresh air.

Ok - here's the deal. I have devised a simple test that will indicate two things with a single result.

It goes like this :
Is the normal price of 3G data 5c or less per megabyte ?

Yes = SEACOM is a success AND write more articles about it
No = SEACOM is not yet a success DON'T write more articles about it.

So people please, apply that simple test BEFORE writing anything about SEACOM and for that matter bandwidth prices in South Africa.

Thank you.

Hi Rouxenator

I understand that you don’t want to hear more about Seacom or whoever else, but we cannot stop reporting on its progress etc. With your logic we can say: Was the election won yet: No, so don’t write about it. Our purpose with the news section is to report on matters, and the progress of SEACOM, potential new services, potential price changes etc certainly forms part of this.

Would you for example not like to know if the project has been delayed? Or that a meteorite may hit earth? :D

The cable laying process has already been delayed in Egypt, where the permit application process was delayed

The following might help, "Yalah!" following by clapping and if they say "Bakshish" - open your wallet and pay. USD is still good there, they don't worry about dollar weakness.

On seacoms website they state that they will be readdy to begin trials by 2009 June to meet demand required by the FIFA Confederations Cup

The SEACOM investors will rely on money from FIFA to finance their project. I doubt that this will be delayed.

But the question will be - When will consumers be allowed to profit from SEACOM's bandwith ?

Thanks - I'll stop duplicating my post now.

Well, meteorite or delay - either way the test remains the same. Is the data rate acceptable - yes/no.

It is clear that if the data rate is not acceptable yet that there is either a delay or it failed.

Booleanism is what I call it. It is the state of mind to assume when you get promised something for the 100th time :p

We're getting hit by meteorite's every day.

Just post article's about huge ones that can destroy the planet.

tx;)
