Hi all,

I am looking for a SA based cloud storage provider with the following (desired) requirements:

1. Client-side encryption so that the hosting provider will not see what I am uploading
2. Storage/servers in SA so that up/down speeds are as good as they can get. Could somebody correct me if I am wrong to assume this?
3. WebDAV/similar network drive access so that I can store my files directly on the server
4. Accessible by not just me, but a team as well. So its like a shared cloud folder
5. Space requirements around 10GB or so.

Commercial solutions are like Google Drive and so on but I don't want to have a copy of the stuff on my computer. I just need it to be on a server that I can access when need be.

Anybody knows of any solution to this problem?
Perhaps, a server instance at one of the server providers like Afrihost?

Cheers!

The best would probably be to get a virtual server and install your own software. This way the host won't be able to access your data and you can have a more customised solution. OwnCloud is very nice but you will have a copy of the data on your computer as well. Perhaps something like AjaXplorer would be a good idea on a VPS.

I second Oceanhost's suggestion, VPS or dedicated server would be the best route to follow for your requirements.

Not sure about encryption, you might want to handle that yourself, even if you do a virtual server. However, Google Drive and Drop Box allows you to access the files from anywhere already without having a copy of the files on your machine.

Same goes for uploading files/changes/making changes etc

So not sure why you say you don't want to use it because you don't want a local copy of the files

+1 For Owncloud, they have just released v5 http://owncloud.org/
You can setup this up yourself on a VM to test the features are in line with what you need before you signup for a VPS.

Thanks! Well when you have Google Drive/Dropbox, if you want to be able to view the files via Windows Explorer then you need a local copy right?

Whereas with things like Wuala and Webdav, you don't need a local copy but can still use Explorer to browse for files.
