EDIT - this is actually a very good service if you use it as intended. See my third attempt for feedback.

I recently decided to import a used CPU that I brought on eBay in the USA. This is not the first time I have done this, I have brought many things on eBay from all over the world (USA, UK, Germany, Singapore, etc) and have it deliver to my door with Aramex Global Shopper (no problems).

However since I saw an ad for Ship7 that claims it is tax free, cheap and fast I decided to give a try and see how it compares to AGS.

--- it is terrible ---

I paid for my CPU exactly one week ago and I had a choice of two delivery addresses in the USA, one in New Jersey and the tax free one in Delaware. So I opted for the later.

Three days ago I was notified by Ship7 that my parcel arrived and I needed to specify the value - a bit odd for a tax free service - but they claim it is so they know the value in case it gets lost or damaged. At this stage I was unable to request that my item gets shipped out. After enquiring about it I was told that :
"When you choose the DE warehouse you will have to wait for 3 working days to ship your packages. because we don't have a ship out or operation team at this address to ship or repack the packages on the same day in DE so we are using it only for receiving the packages all ship-outs out and operations are done in the NJ warehouse. So we ship the packages from DE to NJ twice a week. This is the reason your packages is currently stopped for shipping."

So finally today I could select the option to have my order shipped and the cheapest service is Aramex, coming in at a whopping R440! To put this into perspective, in April I paid R230 to have a motherboard shipped from New York using Aramex Global Shopper. Now I am paying R440 for a freaking CPU!!!

I'll give an update later on how things progress and whether this actually is a tax free service - but all I can say thus far is avoid Ship7!

You sure you didn't misunderstand tax free as in STATE sales tax - NY attracts state sales tax(4%) - looks like Delaware don't.

Probably - but that is not how their clickbait ads made things look.

Even without the tax issue - this is an absolutely terrible service so far compared to what I am used to.

So I paid for shipping last week - this is what I see today. It took them nearly a week to get it shipped out.

I really have had enough to the point that last night I ordered another processor, exact same model, but this time coming in via Aramex Global Shopper.

Let's see how it goes.

But to recap - Ship7 is absolute trash!!!! Do not use them.

Quite normal service, they drive the parcels from delaware to New jersey to save on sales tax, this saves me 100 of dolllars monthly. I use nybox.

Aramex only collects on fridays from these reshippers, so if you ship on monday it only really leaves friday.

They are pricey but you get combine the parcels, I combine lots of small parcels to save on it.

I guess if you buy expensive stuff state side - then maybe. But for me buying cheap used items - I'm sticking to AGS.

Never one to take my own advice - I am giving this a second chance - again like in the first case with an exactly similarly sized and weight parcel.

In December I bought a boxed HP T540 :

AGS charged me around R1400 to fly it in.

Now I have bought a boxed HP T640 :

Let's see if they smoke me on the shipping since I did save a bit on the tax. Shipping will be with Aramex.

Off to a bit of a rocky start. Item was delivered to Ship7 on Tuesday and still not showing up on my profile. I did contact them, and they said it will take up to 2 days to get processed. Will see what has happened by tomorrow afternoon.

Let's hope it was not a scam...

The good :
Parcel is on it's way
Saved local US taxes
Aramex shipping is R1200 cheaper than with Aramex Global Shopper

The bad :
Took a few days after being delivered to show up in my mailbox
Took a week before it was shipped to NY
After paying it took a few more days before it was with Aramex

So considering the above, would I recommend Ship7 after giving it a 2nd chance? Maybe - if you are buying something expensive enough and have time to wait. This certainly has been a far more positive experience than my first one. However, I think AGS is still a better service if you don't mind paying a bit more.

The show up is quite normal even with nybox, it gets delivered to another state then driven to actual warehouse where it scanned, sometimes the truck is full for the day so would need wait for next day.

Aramex only fetches parcels weekly from these reshippers, i was told. Did ask nybox why it takes so long. They says gets fetched on fridays only.

Update 3 - I have now used Ship 7 as intended and it's pretty good!

My first 2 attempts were not really what Ship 7 is intended for. Sure, it can do single parcels but there are plenty of services that offer that, as mentioned Aramex Global Shopper is one of them that I have used.

If you really want value from Ship7 you need to use it for multiple purchases that you then combine and ship over in one package. This time round I bought various old computer components (Igel thin client, Phenom CPU, GDDR3 GPUs, S775 DDR3 mobo) which arrived at their tax-free Delaware warehouse over the course of 2 weeks. This past weekend I paid about R200 to have them merged and bubble wrap added.

Will give feedback how this pans out - but I am enjoying this service much more now that I am using it for what it was designed for.
