Shopping for a new ISP

Thanks guys!
Really appreciate your time and knowledge.

So assuming you are mostly against Openweb? Haha.

I was considering the Afrihost 2 MB Business Uncapped as well. Considering that if I can get better line speed and P2P, even though an Afrihost 2Mb business costs similar to 4 Mb normal uncapped line, that'll perhaps provide better overall speed. Which will be better than getting 11kB/s on a 4 Mb uncapped line.

I just haven't been with Afrihost long enough to really judge how they are, so experienced user opinions really help. I do like the Afrihost ClientZone, and the fact that I can easily control my account (Openweb is terrible in that regard).

I see a 4 Mb line with plugg is R395.

hmm...

Nothing compares to AH clientzone, plugg's is very basic, but at least the bandwidth works, that's all I care about.

If you only care about after 5pm and weekends then go Plugg, if you want an allrounder then I think the 2mb business from AH will be better, well during the day at least (8am-5pm).

10Mbps uncapped for home users should cost people R1,000 and it seems more and more home users are upgrading to business accounts because their regular accounts are constantly shaped into the ground. Just doesn't seem right.

I pay that for my Web Africa 10Meg Business. Excluding line of course. Which is more expensive than AH Business.

I'd probably have used them if it wasn't for the streaming issues, but as it stands IS based accounts, like WA, and VOX accounts do the best at streaming.

Feedback So Far:

It has been 18 hours since I switched over to Crystal Web. I have a 10mb line btw

First thing is I haven't had DNS issues like with my other ISP. Web pages load quickly no waiting for DNS Lookups.

Secondly I can finally watch YouTube clips in 1080P this was tested for 3 hours non stop.

Thirdly HTTP downloads and SpeedTest runs like a dream

Fourthly Netflix and Offsidestreams work perfectly.

Will continue to test today with online gaming and more streaming

Afrihost Business- look I have a lot of respect for them and they have helped me a he'll of a lot. Credit where it is due I was able to download 1TB why so much you ask. I was planning to downsize my account due to cost.

HTTP downloads with them had no issues but only so much one can download instead of everything else.

However now I am paying less for more.

Yay my wife hasn't complained about the Internet now for 18 hours

Lol :D

Looks like AH business are just that, good downloading accounts. Which area/IPC you're in?

Been with CW since yesterday. Their support was very fast over the weekend. They don't have an NNTP server yet - but will at launch date. I'm happy so far. Their policies make sense. Didn't have enough time to judge Netflix performance yet.

Please check Netflix and Twitch. These are the most important services when judging ISPs these days.

Hey Necuno, does Crystal has a website? Google has nothing on them.

Our site will go live with our official launch in a few weeks' time. Until then please email [email protected] and tell them I referred you from mybroadband - the team will sort you out.

Thanks

DJ...

Well, we do have an nntp server, in fact the best in SA with 2000+ days retention, SSL, etc, but we're still integrating and testing. A few lucky customers have access so far but we're not ready for an official launch of this yet. Hold tight though - it's coming.

And thanks for the great feedback...
