Seriously now, are you bored or something? Myself and other console owners have explained our preferences for consoles countless times and you've been the instigator in derailing console threads a number of times. You do not listen to anybody and keep throwing your unneeded and unwanted 2c worth of an opinion into discussions that do not warrant it.

Just settle down and load up a game on that PC of yours that you keep bragging about instead of attacking other forum goers.

All i'm trying to say is why pay R1000 for a few hours of fun?

Wouldn't you guys rather spend towards Hardware and stuff, and

1) end up with a bigger screen, For movie lovers
2) End up with nice Sound, for guys DJing or creating music with FLStudio/Cubase
3) End up with a lot of hard drive space, for TV Lovers ie Series.
4) Fast Graphics/CPU - for 3D Graphics and Animation
etc, etc

All i'm saying is, how expensive do the games have to get before you guys realise a PC is just better? you can do a million more things and it's cheaper. plus you can play 2x the amount of games you do now.

R1000 a pop is just too much for me, would rather buy hardware and end up owning something worthwile - 5 games aint gonna last as long as say, a 32" LCD.

Who's paying R1000 a game?

Iwojima and a few of us have contributed to a thread explaining how the average Joe can take advantage of international online shops that sell games and ship globally. More often than not, you'll get games cheaper than you can locally.

And who exactly are you to tell people how to spend their money. If you can afford a R3K console and a couple of games a month, then a big HDTV and sound system shouldn't really dent your wallet.

Oh, and you say the PC is cheaper eh? Talking out your ass again I see. You're gonna shell out a good few grand on a decent PC and yet again, the argument comes down to longevity. How long will said PC be able to run the latest games before another upgrade is needed?

+1, that big screen argument is particularly bollocks, consoles can play on lcd monitors, Ha! And with the rand steady against the pound and dollar the most we'll probably pay is R500 or R600 including shipping. Which kicks keepers argument right out the window?

feo i'm not telling people what to do with their money, just surprised that people would pay that much.

and if everybody orders online the local console market would surely die..which wouldn't be good...

Where exactly do you see R1000 games?

For example, evogames has the latest titles for about R600 on average which equates pretty well to the US norm of $60.

No, you're not telling people to do with their money. Instead you're accusing console owners of being "child-like" every chance you get for choosing to game on a console as opposed to on a PC.

You do not listen to reason and constantly jump into threads that have nothing to do with the PC to sing it's praises as a gaming platform. Myself and others have on many occasions taken you up on your opinions (as one sided as they may be) and cited everything from comfort factors, pricing to game availability and time constraints, but you still carry on like someone whose life revolves purely around their PC.

You want to talk about being "child-like"? Ignoring the points of the people you started a discussion with, ranting on like the PC is the be all and end all to a group of people who have made an educated decision on why they game on a specific platform and taking any opportunity to berate them for that choice is childish.

What you are effectively doing is behaving like a child with his fingers in his ears, running around in circles shouting: "PC! PC! PC!" and "I can't hear you!" and annoying a group of people trying to quietly discuss the topic at hand.

...or perhaps distributors would be forced to bring their prices in line with the rest of the world, e.g. the Wii.

Buying games from shops like that is the equivalent to buying all your PC hardware at a place like Incredible Corruption...much more expensive than it should be.

If you go back and read the rest of the thread you'll find that most forumites have outright refused to pay those prices and will be importing, renting, buying used or waiting for the price to drop after a few months.
 
Why do people mention screen size and sound on a PC?

Most people have bigger screens and better sound on the TV - not on the PC :/
 
Uh,

I guess it's a slow time of year. TRU stopped selling 360's around 6 months ago (before E3 '08) and are hurting for it.

If you sit close to your tv it will seem like a bigger image. I have 1 screen shared between my console and PC, so when I have to use the PC the same screen seems to be a lot bigger because I'm sitting right in front of it.
 
Yea but it seems that way ;)

In my lounge I have a 42" with decent sound to play on my console - while at the PC I have a 22" with Logitech sound.
 
I prefer having 1 ultimate system that runs it all, instead of 2 mediocre systems...

in the future there will only be a single multimedia device, not a load of smaller ones...like a dvd, video recorder, gaming system, hi-fi, etc, just one thing that works on the future's internet...
 
Even if you have one mediocre system that runs both, the PC games won't have bigger screen or beter sound : they'd be equal.

I think currently, the majority of people have better screens/sounds for their consoles.

Also, many people prefer seperate items that can generally do the job better, as they're focused on doing that job - and that alone. Many people still have a CD player and a DVD player seperately, because on higher end systems one can hear the difference between them playing music.

The PC fanboi in a one year time period:

1st January - Buy R5000 PC & Oblivion
2nd January - Play Oblivion on all settings set to High & realise 10 fps
3rd January - Set all settings to low & realise 30 fps... aaaahh
1st March - Buy Crysis...
2nd March - Set all settings to low because you know your pc sucks... 15 fps
3rd March - PC upgrade - some RAM and a 22" LCD = R4000
4th March - OMG my pc can't handle 1440 x 900!!!
5th March - PC upgrade - VGA = R3000
6th March - WTF fps still 15 fps... hmmm ...surf internet for help...
7th March - OH DAMN!!! CPU bottleneck... shop tomorrow...
8th March - PC upgrade - New CPU = R2500
9th March - YES!!! 60 FPS!!!
1st May - OMG NEW GAME!!!

Rinse and repeat... approx R15000 one year (to get performance equal to Xbox)

Xbox owner scenario over 5 years:

Buy Xbox R3000
Buy Screen or TV - hmmm let's say... R5000

Rent games for R20 a day...

Expenditure over 5 years: R15000

Ya dig?
