No, it works on numbers, or you can block private numbers or numbers not on your phone.
My issue with SVS is NOT about receiving the SMS, but the fact that someone can leave a voice message. I can understand that Vodacom won't be bothered if I don't listen to it because the 90C has been paid.
I don't want the facility, and it is questionable business ethics on Vodacom's side to accept the money if I won't listen to the message.

I understand Antonf to be saying its all very well for him to block the SMS, but th e person leaving an SVS will believe it has been sent/read. This can be annoying

In the same way you could leave a normal voice message but you will have no idea if was listened to. Or send an SMS without knowing if it was read.
Or send an e-mail without knowing it was received.
Or post a letter without knowing it was opened.
You get the point....

So if I post you a letter and it is returned to sender, do I get the postage back?
In other words, the fee is charged for delivery of the service. The fact that you did not open up the message is another matter.
V3G, I find it interesting, and quite amusing, that you compare sending a letter with a hi-tech service provided by Vodacom! If someone sends a letter to an address and the letter is returned undelivered the post office went to the trouble of transporting the letter there and back and should be paid... If the person posting the letter puts no address on the letter it will never be delivered. Not having voice mail is the same as not having an address...
Facts are:
I opted out of voice-mail on an account for very valid reasons.
The statement "A small percentage of subscribers configure and use their voice mail and this service was thus designed to allow a wider audience access to voice messaging" is pure and utter BS. The ENTIRE Vodacom "audience" is already "allowed" FREE access to voice messaging... Check it, it is free...
If an audience requires access to a service such as SVS, it will be requested by the audience. How many requests did Vodacom get for this service? (100, 1000, 100000?)
I did not and will not sign up for SVS, and all SVS SMS' I receive could thus be considered spam as they are unsolicited electronic communications... I will thus NOT block SVS SMS', but report Vodacom for spamming me...

I someone suspect the 'errors' are coming from the fingers punching the buttons, not the calculator itself.
Not sure where this thread went so far off topic, but you failed to mention that guavamint owns shares in MTN, and while I'm the last person to defend WBS [iBurst SA] I'm not aware of a guavamental shareholding in WBS - although I strongly suspect that something fishy is going on there with BEE deals bcos Poison Ivy seems to have been uncharacteristically friendly towards WBS as far as spectrum allocations go - Poison Ivy simultaneously displayed contempt for Vodacom [and probably MTN] by refusing to allow Vodacom [and MTN] to have their own WiMax spectrum...+1, Good Question...

The SVS service is taking a bit of strain at the moment as the marketing starts kicking in and every message to a new number kicks off an auto-provision process. Should start to normalise soon. (I hope)
Seems the service is quite popular. From the stats I see one guy left 60 voice messages to 60 different people.
While it was designed a a serious services to certain segments I'm beginning to suspect it's got a big 'fun-factor' user base as well.
How will you be able to leave a voice message if I don't have a voice message facility?
I block e-mail addresses using Mailwasher Pro - it will be bounced...
If I don't have a postal address where are you going to post the letter to?

Unsuspecting callers will waste money delivering voice messages that will not be listened to.

I hope you get your opt-out. One thing on your argument:
You presumably have a home, and therefore an address to post the letter to; as do you have a cell phone. I struggle to understand your worry. Don't want SVS, don't give out your number, or make it clear that you do not reply to SVS.
If its from a spammer, I say; bring on the SVS, let them waste 90c a pop.
