Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Does anyone else's Skyworth box occasionally ask them to push a button on the remote? and if so, any idea how to stop it. The Android TV phone remote doesn't work and I haven't been able to find a way to clear the message except with the physical remote. Worried about what would happen if the remote died/went flat/got lost/got chewed by the dog.

I'm using one of these full keyboard/mouse combos. Haven't paired the remote that comes with the box so now and then I get the press 'down' thing but I just press down on my remote and it goes away. You should invest in one, works much better except no voice funtionality which I dont use.

This is meant to prevent the possibility of you needing to use a 3rd device to clear the Bluetooth pairing on the box should you replace your remote. We should have replacement remotes available soon.

The Android app is working, and should clear this with the down arrow. If you are unable to connect with the Android app, you may try enabling Bluetooth on your phone, or making sure your phone and box are on the same network. If you can't come right please DM us and we will see how we can assist.

Thanks. The Android remote does work, however last time I tried it, it wouldn't clear this message. I will try again next time it does it and will DM you if still a problem.

Has anybody been having issues with the live tv on the DSTV now app. Mine does not seem to play at all. Catchup and other streaming apps work fine.

Contacted dstv through their online chat function and the agent advised that DSTv now on the skyworth binge android box is not supported :unsure::X3:. I ended the chat thereafter

I have been using the DSTV Now App lately and never had that issue.
 
All was well until about two days ago. What I did notice that if I use the DSTV now app on my cellphone(mobile data) the live tv plays. Once I connect to my fibre line it does not. Do I contact my ISP? My line speeds are fine when I run a test.
 
Has the DSTV Now app changed. I prefered the layout on the one i tried over a week ago on a non certifed google device. It had showmax, etc in as one app and the live tv layout was better than the scoll to the left / right single bar look.

what does everyone use to sideload apk's? I used ES explorer but not sure if i like it.

Also what is the regester device for?

You should check with your ISP on this one. There may be a routing issue.

Their live tv streams (app and website) was off late last night until early morning hours. Tried it early this morning and just now again and working fine.

Next time it happens to you login on https://now.dstv.com/livetv and try it there - if it works there the app should also work and vice versa

The last version working on non certified devices is 1.42.6:

Difference to later certified versions is mainly
  • When channel starts playing its not full screen and you have to manually make it full screen
  • Stream quality seems poorer but if you give it a minute or two it seems to inprove to an acceptable level

I am using dstv now on a 'normal' android (non android tv) certified device and on my device GUI changes was implemented since version 2.1.11, difference being when selecting live channels it had a tab showing recently played channels.

Here you can get 2.1.3 to 2.1.14 (latest):

If you install 2.1.10 and then for instance 2.1.14 you will see the GUI changes.

I see the GUI has changed. I prefered the one on 2.1.11 . People on play store also complained about the new GUI i see.

I assume you are running on android tv like the skyworth box. On my non androidtv box versions 2.1.11 - 2.1.14 looks the same.
