In netflix, search for 'test patterns' and play it - it will show you the real resolution. On non netflix certified devices like the skyworth it will max out on 480p / 540p / 576p which is SD
 
Has anyone had success using the SPDIF port for audio? Whatever setting I try on the "Settings" doesn't pass audio to my Home Theatre system. Tried the same cable from DSTV decoder to the Home Theatre and it worked fine.

Currently using a bluetooth receiver but the sound isn't that great, any tips for passing audio with this box?
 
I have returned the Skyworth and now have a M8S Pro. Now I again have a problem with DSTV now. Wont stream anything. Is there a way around this. I did download an APK and installed but same problem. Also on Chrome doesnt wat to stream anything.

If you returned the Skyworth then why post this in the Skyworth thread?

The only real alternatives to the Binge is Mibox and Litbox

Netflix started to block all patched Netflix apps and devices not certified to use their app.
Their might still be a very old Netflix app that can work for now, but sooner or later it will force you to update and then also not work anymore.

So would this be the reason I get the "Your account cannot be used with this device" error when attempting to play something on Netflix?

@Skyworth Digital Support any progress on getting this device certified with Netflix? The app works flawlessly outside of actual playback.

Dstv now only works on google CERTIFIED boxes..mine works perfectly along with showmax..pity about NETFLIX and amazon prime..

Yes
You can easily get an Android tv box that supports LibreELEC and run FHD Netflix without any license as it's a Linux OS. Unfortunately Google Certified devices have locked bootloaders, so devices like the Binge TV, Lit and Mi Box can't run it, Google only allows Android on it's own with a locked bootloader, otherwise they don't certify a device.

Netflix isn't interested in tv box manufacturers, they only care about big cable/sattelite companies with hundreds of thousands of users that can pay their yearly $5m license fees and $200000 monthly operating fees to have access to their servers. Xiaomi is basically the only company that can still pay those fees as they sell millions of devices and have their phone business that can subsidise costs. Telkom is also a big media company and made agreements to promote Netflix in South Africa and also have monthly ISP and phone revenue to subsidies any costs. Companies with no recurring monthly revenue will have an extremely difficult time to get Netflix Certification.

I thought LIT and Mi Box is now Google approved?

You can download the APK from there.

Once downloaded, the box will ask for approve the browser as an "uknown source" installer.

That's how i've been installing my apk's

Installed firefox like that too, but needed to use my airmouse/keyboard to use it.

I've installed Netflix this way, but for some reason it doesn't appear anywhere.

Google certification is one thing, NetFlix approval, is another, if Netflix stock drops again heavy during the year, a lot of Google certified boxed will gain NetFlix approval, as there are a veritable **** load of potential NetFlix subscribers on those boxes and the only way to "unlock" them is to NetFlix approve, the boxes they have bought, i.e. those that are Google certified.

It's not about the cost , it's more about turn around time, the lit box took 1 year to get certification.
 
Thanks for the responses above. Netflix at this time isn't really an issue for me, Kodi has been running fantastically on this device. My Netflix experiment was exactly that, as I plan on getting fibre soon to move over to streaming services as a whole.
If Netflix are refusing to allow me to use their service (which I will gladly pay for) on my device of choice, that's their loss, not mine.
 
I purchased the Skyworth box and for R799 it's pretty great. It's speedy and I haven't noticed much lag. I did get Netflix working and DSTV Now and Showmax along with YouTube work well. The fact that there is a Google Assistant present is value for money.

When you say Netflix is working, does it mean you can actually play content through Netflix?
