Anyone else having issues using smtp.saix.net

Can't send any mail "server timed out" on both Telkom DSL & 8ta 3G??

Had a couple of reports from clients on Wednesday which cleared overnight. I'm guessing it's something to do with the line speed upgrades.

Nope still timing out...

mail.saix.net - 196.43.2.142
smtp.saix.net - 196.43.0.142

Both don't work....

Come 8ta fix your sh*t!

Hi there

smtp.saix.net is not ours to fix. Please contact your email provider who will in turn take it up with the outgoing mail server provider if necessary.

Using an 8ta connection we have just done a telnet into smtp.saix.net port 25 and connected immediately with no issues.

Strangely enough I got the same reply from Telkom SA in versed.

Telkom say if I can receive email from my telkomsa.net email address then their servers are up.
If I can't send email i must contact the ISP (8ta) to have them check there SMTP server.

So basically it's a big FU from 8ta & Telkom.... go figure....

As I understand it

pop3.telkomsa.net (TelkomSA's problem to fix)
smtp.saix.net (8ta's problem to fix)
smtp.mweb.co.za (mweb's problem to fix)
smtp.vodamail.co.za (Vodacom's problem to fix)
get what I am saying?

Moving along.... Cancelled the Telkom & 8ta account's and will be moving them to Mweb & Cell C...

Hi Hummercellc

Your understanding is unfortunately incorrect.

Your email provider should be assisting with all email issues. smtp.saix.net has been in existence for a lot longer than 8ta. 8ta uses www.8tamail.com for email and this outgoing mail server is smtp.live.com.

Timeouts usually happens when scanning of outgoing email is set on an antivirus or an enabled firewall is blocking outgoing email. You may want to try disabling your antivirus or firewall or both if they are enabled and check if you are then able to send emails. If this is the problem, then changing providers will not help.

If you google the error number you have been provided by your email application, you should find a fix or where the problem exists.

The strange part is Cell C (smtp.cellc.co.za) & Vodacom (smtp.vodamail.co.za) both work 100% only smtp.saix.net on 8ta does not work, it has worked very well for over a year. And one day boom it just stopped working....

If it was a firewall or anti-virus problem other providers would not work either but they do? So I would rather switch providers then fight with a network that has no form of "Customer Care". Plain and simple.....

The same happened to me for one day last week - with smtp.saix.net, but the following day everything was back up and running. I don't see how it can be someones firewall settings if it works perfectly for a year, and then out the blue a failure, and then it works again the next day.

Hi there

We are sorry you feel this way. You have not informed us that you have tested via other providers. You have also not provided an error number either for us to attempt to assist via this forum.
We have informed you that we do not manage smtp.saix.net. We do not have an account with them to report issues as we do not provide email services to customers using this platform. Telkom Internet have an account with SAIX in order to report individual issues. We are also able to connect to smtp as shown in the screenshot. We can only provide support if we have all the information and it is difficult to assist using this forum. If you are not happy with the customer support being provided by call centres, you are most welcome to request to speak to supervisors and managers at these contact centres for the lack of support.

Hi,

I had the same issue couldn't even telnet to smtp.saix.net on port 25. But by disconnecting and re-connecting my 8ta connection. Suddenly(?) smtp.saix.net started working again.

Almost as if SAIX's firewalls blocks certain incoming IP's over time.

I'm getting connection timed out when trying to get to news.saix.net. It's frustrating, as I'm not getting any solution.

Hi there

Where have you requested a solution from? Have you tested this service from your machine using any other service provider?

There is also a thread discussing news servers and a solution may come from fellow forum users who may have experienced the same problem.

Called 8ta call centre. First person there didn't know what's a news server. Was convinced the problem was with the "website", as other websites work. Then called saix. They said news server was working. Called 8ta again and asked them to escalate to someone more knowledgeable. Chad got back to me today, and transferred me to someone in saix - and I got through the same saix agent I spoke to - who confirmed that the news server was functioning. My suspicion is there might be something on 8ta's side that's preventing the connection to the news server. This situation actually makes the night surfer option useless to me.

Only have 8ta as service provider. Tried with a different computer. Failed.
