smtp.vodacom.co.za

I am in Bryanston (probably the worst reception in the country btw :) )

I'm sure the guys in Constantia in Cape Town, will disagree.

Funny, the more 'upmarket' an area the worse the coverage.....you would think that in such areas with 20 phones per household, there'd be towers on every block....wonder why not?

In any case, can you retest smtp mail over the internetvpn apn?

Tested it now and it connected and sent, no problem.

OT: I was also able to connect to the vpn apn first time round (not like the last couple of days)

Thanks v3g

Cool, have you tested the internet->unrestricted remote console again?

@v3G why would internetvpn make a difference? Is this servcie provided by another server?

No it's a different Access Point, runs on the same systems as the others.

Aarg. My own mail is not going though today. I have tried both the unrestricted and internet APN, same result. Have tried to ping the smtp server on both APNs with the same result:

C:\Documents and Settings\Gavin de Klerk>ping smtp.vodacom.co.za

Pinging smtp.vodacom.co.za [196.11.146.148] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 196.11.146.148:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

v3g, please advise.

My SMTP connection is dead as well.

Centurion - at both Wierda Park and Lyttelton areas.

Can't ping...can't send.

Snap.

155 have confirmed that there is a problem in the Gauteng area.

Please be patient we/VC have a problem. :)
Please try again later. :D

Isn't it funny that the more upmarket the area, the more the clients want service, but the less they want to have masts in their area?

It would be great from a planning point if the residents of these "upmarket" areas accept that if they want decent service, they have to learn to accept cellphone masts!

The same problem (unable to access smtp.vodacom.co.za) is also occuring in KZN and the guys are busy sorting it out.

Internet is mission critical so is email

Email is not working, again.

Once it's down it's too late.

Only once service providers consider their services mission critical will this stop happening, because then networks would be up and stable 99.9999% of the time.

There were some routing problems this morning and it caused a number of disruptions, including web sites not accesible and also smtp.vodacom.co.za.

But it's supposed to be all OK now, I just sent mail without a problem. Can you confirm?

Alternate smtp server

VC's smtp server is definitely down. So which smtp server can I/we use now?? Is there no backup.

How can anybody run a business or critical services with such poor stats over such an extended period. Email services being such a service. Again if we/I can help do some testing from enduser point of view just say the word.

:)

Just this minute I was able to send SMS and email.

What a difference when it works. And how little time is lost.

Have you rebooted your PC? ... (just joking!)
No jokes, when I can't send email I first boot the P990. On occasion sending email then works, but more often than not I'm justing wasting my time to reboot. But yes I do reboot the P990. :)

Yes, we've managed to 'converge' the instabilities of PC's into phones....

I'd still like to know where you are though. It really helps us to pinpoint problems. Won't you update your location info?

Also, the other bits of info, apn, etc?
