Just bought the 2+1 to test the service. Using Cell modem tried Cell C software and 8ta software.
Same thing with both.
I can connect with really good speeds but just never for more than 3 or 4 mintes at a time.
It just kicks me off saying service is unavailable and I have to go back to the software to reconnect.
Most of the time it just reconnects (but only for 3 minutes again) but sometimes I cant connect and have to wait 5 or 10 mins before reconnecting again.

Tried the call center (after getting cut off and hearing a million ridiculous solutions like unplug it and plug it back in again) and all they can do is log it with the technical department and someone will get back to me within 72 HOURS.

Are they kidding - 72 hours to be able to talk to the technical department.
I suppose I should have know better than to get involved with Telkom again.

So frustrated does anyone have a solution other than cutting the sim card into 10000000 pieces and going back to Vodacom?

Hi there

Does the same thing happen with a different modem? Does this happen at a different location altogether?

think you're the only one???? read here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/392897-8ta-discconets-on-idle

freeshine 8ta was the best internet provider for me but it has become the worst, and im glad these kinds of similar problems keep popping up, how many people must PM 8ta in order to see that this is the most annoying thing in the world and please: IT IS NOT OUR BLOODY MODEMS.... ITS 8TA... FOR CRYING OUT LOUD... FIX IT ALREADY!!!!!

When I got your reply I didn't have another modem to try except an old Vodacom one which didnt work at all.

I eventually found an old Orange modem from Botswana lying around my house that I had from ages ago - Huawei E1552. Its only a 3.6Mbs modem but so far I have been connected to 8ta for 2 hours without being cutoff.

I am getting download speeds of around 1Mbps according to the 8ta connect software. It might be a little slower than normal due to the old slow modem but at least its not dropping me every 5 minutes.

If the connection remains constant I will go and buy a new faster modem from 8ta and hopefully go onto the 60 + 60 deal.
I would like to keep testing it on the smaller deal in the meantime to make sure.

Thank you for your reply it was helpful.

I will keep you posted

Yup - my disconnection issues also stopped when I changed my modem (from a 21.1 to a 7.2 though)

OP, What's really annoying is thread headings that don't give adequate description of the contents therein.
