So I got myself a Touch HD :D

Brilliant phone. HTC Touch HD, have had it almost 2 weeks now, and loving every minute!

Looking at upgrading the firmware soon...

Anyway, curious if anybody else has one and what they think of it...

Swopped my Storm for a Touch HD... Pretty nice phone, one of the best WM phones ever!

But the onscreen kb got me down and I went back to my Palm Centro... Miss the big screen tho... So either going to sell the HD, or wait for the Palm Pre to launch and then hopefully trade the HD for that...

The Touch HD with a hard keyboard is what I want ... and sadly the Touch Pro 2 fails to be that. No 3.5 mm audio jack on the Pro ... and it's flippen expensive.

chris2.0, I also hope we'll see the GSM Pre in SA soon. Realistic indications are that we may only get it 1st Q in 2010 and then it will again depend on it being a network exclusive offer (MTN or Vodacom). I wanted it end of August .

For years I've been saying I want a PDA with 3.5mm audio jack. Then I got the Touch HD in Nov last year, and guess what ... I've only ever used it once (ie the 3.5 jack). I know everyone's different, but just mentioning that what I thought was an essential turned out to be superfluous. Now using a Diamond/2, which is really just a smaller Touch HD. I miss the BIG SCREEN, but I love the TD/2's size.

Everyone's different - I hate hard keyboards on a PDA.

did you ever upgrade the firmware, and if so did you use legit htc firmware or a cooked rom? i'm trying to find legit htc firmware for my hd which i got from vodacom but the htc site only has it for EU and as such i can't use it.

Hey Arthur, the 3.5 jack is important to me as it will mean I can hand my iPod over to one of my kids and use my phone for audio (music and books) also ... using my Sennheiser earphones. One device is what I'm after. I'm also a heavy e-mail user and will struggle without a hard keyboard.

Had one, but got rid of it. Windows Mobile is a nightmare. And the screen / interface felt like almost an i-phone. Eg brilliant big screen, but the occasional lag while WinMo loaded ruined the experience.

Yeah, have you checked out the XDA forums? Mandatory reading if you have a HTC built device!

Yea, I'm often on XDA forums, but havent found a rom of my liking!... But to answer someone else, no, I haven't flashed my phone yet. first seeing what's out there, then will flash my phone with one of the XDA ones... I can't care about warranty, that's what insurance is for

I'm still getting to know the phone. Sofar i'm enjoying it! my only irritation with it is the volume control on the side, way too sensitive!

The best WM6.1 ROM I've had in the HD is Dutty's 3.9. I haven't tried any of his 6.5 builds. Tried any early Miri 6.5 some months ago but the driver/device support for the HD was buggy even though the OS itself is solid.

well, the roms i've seen has got a crappy interface. so i'm looking for something that's as appearling as the standard rom but better! with better skinning and colour schemes etc!

i practically live on the xda forums, but haven't tried any roms there. i prefer legit roms for dependibility reasons - i need my phone to work 100% of the time since i use it as a business device.

i'm thinking about installing the hd tweak utility in order to make some suggested changes to the built in GPS settings which are supposed to help with the lag issue.

anyway, i asked htc about why the legit htc rom is not for za and the guy though i was referring to winmo6.5. result is he told me the release date is mid october which is cool. anyway, he requested a cd with roms and i should be hearing from him today about a new rom for the HD sold in za.

i'll post back here about the findings.
