So I went to Capitec

I moved from Standard Bank to Capitec yesterday. Initial impressions are nothing but positive. The Global One account is great, their bank charges are low and the service is far better than what I received from FNB and Standard Bank.

Welcome! I am still very happy with their simplified banking offering. I only have my FNB account still open as a backup and for my 2015 SARS refund as changing bank details would delay the process. FNB first irritated me by making their eBucks rules complicated... then they took away my fee saver!

Capitec + Virgin Money CC = perfect simplified banking bouquet.

Capitec taught me we don't need bloated banking products. We love the simplicity of Capitec and the extended working hours. The fact that we can go on a Sunday to our Mall branch saves us lots of time.

I always get the same response from the friends and family that I've told I'm with Capitec now, and that's if it's worth the risk. I say what risk, and they say the risk of Capitec going the way of Saambou.

Interesting...

Most bank A to bank B EFT's done during business hours only show up in the receiver's account the next day. But Capitec is awesomely different! All of the following tested with an EFT during banking hours:
ABSA > Capitec - money in by 6pm same day
FNB > Capitec - money in by 6pm and sometimes before 4pm same day
STD bank > Capitec - money in by 8pm same day

Also works the other way around. This is the first bank I have encountered whereby the EFT from a different bank is processed and reflects the same day.

Just another reason why I love Capitec and am becoming a big fanboi!

I have been with Capitec since 2007 and have had a few problems like with all banks. Them not assigning my card limit correctly, Issue not stopping MTN debit order. People jumping the ques before number system was in place. I almost never go into a branch, all done online. Don't need loans I live cash. And use STB CC for online shopping and ADSL payments.

All and all not a bad bank. and the interest is always welcome. Buys 4 full house Spur meals a month if I want.

Do you earn any points like ebucks? Rewards? Do you get any freebies for being on a certain status?
PayPal integration?

Statistically, let's say I swipe 5-20k a month with my capitec card, what do I get?

You get told "you're doing it wrong".

Leave the 5-20k in the Capitec account and it will earn you 4.4-4.5% interest pa for the month. Use a Virgin Money credit card for all your swiping with zero interest charges or annual fee. Settle VMCC at month end and pocket Capitec interest earned.

Capitec is not about rewards. It's about low bank charges, decent interest earning on your transmission money and simplified banking.

I still don't see how that would earn me more than what I would get through ebucks.

Shhh, Capitec fanboys enjoy a good circle jerk. You're not allowed to say anything bad. They're even happy to pay for sms notifications. Teh big 4 is the devil for offering such a service for free...

They cater for two different target markets. If you're spending 20k a month then by all means go with FNB because the ebucks are more beneficial, but if you're on the lower end Capitec is simplistic and low cost.
