so... is anyone actually using this?

Yes they are monitoring this forum, infact a few employees already actively post here

thanks noone,

that does give me an inkling about UTD & ethernet - i'm still using my UTD via USB and was wondering a bit about trying UTD ethernet on a second ethernet card, if you don't mind, could you have a squiz at my other posting (url below) and give me some pointers/feedback?

http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5540

tks.

thx noone, I will be contacting them this week and see what they have to say. You must understand I am a bit hesitant after my sentech experience. I think after Feb next year things might change as well with the deregulation of the internet in SA comming into affect.

"Broadband in SA is like the holy grail - everybody knows what it is but nobody has ever found it"

Must say that from what I have read here I am REALLY IMPRESSED - does anyone know if they will be supplying test modems so that you can check if it works in your area (I stuggle to work out where I am on their maps) - I have used their contact us page but from previouse experience I don't expect any answer soon

All that I ask is that you try out a Mac - kilps

I am confused...I know that until march 2k5 there will be no real cap, shaping, etc. etc. at R454; is this just the carrot to get users to join and then be stuck, if they signed the 24 month contract, with no real affordable options. I will not be satified with a 3GB cap and all the other restrictions mentioned. Come on guys please put up more creative affordable packages by March 2005.
I am contemplating on taking a chance with these guys anyway seeing that there is no real better option out there. Sentech was bad but I am a sucker for punishnent...I think I'll speak to them at their offices and hear exactly what the deal is.

"Broadband in SA is like the holy grail - everybody knows what it is but nobody has ever found it"

Well, from what I hear getting out of the contract is easier, and they're flexible. The cap is supposed to be implemented already, but they decided not to because users wasn't impressed by it (TheRodent makes big noise) and they're considering other options.

As for shaping and if there will be a cap during pre-launch, I am not sure, things may change. Even if these guys do impose a cap, I would like to see what type of packages they release, how flexible they will be to suit my needs (and not their own pockets) and how their support/bandwidth keeps up with demand.

Im a sucker for punishment as well, but I know my stuff...

My reasoning on the cancellation thing was that during the launch March/April 2k05, there would be enough new subscribers signing up, that WBS would let me out of the 24 month contract if I decided iBurst was doing a mywireless.

There can be no doubt that the pre-launch / soft-launch price R454 (incl VAT) is very much a carrot, and yes I took it shamelessly bcos I was spending more than R700/month on ISDN.

Thx Noone for your post. Shed a lot of light on Iburst where their was darkness for me, after reading the forums last week it sounded like a Sensuck for a moment. I like that they have changed their minds about the cap and I hope this stays the case or they implement a reasonable cap of 20 gigs or more. I do beleve we have to say a thank you to TheRodent for being a moaner. Thanks TheRodent. I hope that Iburst gets all the support we can give them and gives us a break where we previously had Telkom to deal with. I just hope that pings can improve so that FPS Gaming will be enjoyable on Iburst.

Another thing I wanted to ask is when us in Cape Town will be able to take advantage of this Softlaunch. I am very keen to get it in January. If it is somewhere on the website, I apologise.. I am lazy

Unfortunatly I don't expect them to have a softlaunch for any other region other than JHB at the moment.

As for the gaming, will have to wait and see [;)]

Got the damn modem...set it up...5 people from wbs phones me to confirm that i have been registerd...not bad...and it seems to be working rather well. No e-mail server though until 3 weeks from now.
I just have to do a reality check that this might degrade when more users sign up plus all the shaping and caps will be enforced.
For now I will enjoy...streaming 256k audio no problem from paris,france. [:D]

woohoo! got my modem! I cannot wait to get home!! WOOT! :)

I really hope these guys last. I was SO impressed with their service - they were quick and efficient and EXTREMELY friendly and helpfull! I just hope their bandwidth is of the same standard.

WBS - Well done on excellent customer service!

Now... let's get a-downloadin'! [:D]

Well, I got my modem today and I must say that so far I am rather impressed.

I decided to make the jump this afternoon at about 14:00, started phoning around and 4 hours later I was at home setting the modem up. That is damn fast.

I eagerly wait for the signal to come up... 100%. And this after I was struggling to get a Sucktech signal higher than 8%.

So I log on and start testing. DC++, Torrents, Streaming video, Sahreaza, etc. I threw everything I had at this thing and it just lapped it up. At one stage I was running 5 streaming videos at the same time and maxing the connection at 115KB/s. And I could still browse. Color me impressed.

I loaded up City of Heroes to check the MMORPG side of it and it was beautifull. Not a stutter, not a single moment of lag.

This is what I want in an internet connection!

I realize that I have only had this for a couple of hours and I will probably be disapointed soon. There is that cap looming in the future and I still need to try more gaming to check lag. But first impressions are awesome.

or maybe it will... thats why i'm punting iburst like a motherfcuker to everyone I know so we can get enough REALWORLD testers on this thing and hopefully fry it before their launch next year so they know what to expect from a few thousand users instead of the 150 or so that tested it for a year or whatnot

Come on give us a 10gb cap or a 6gb cap.

Sentech kiss your existance as a ISP Good-bye.

Google is so smart,I typed in Hellkom and guess what google said

Don`t you mean.....<insert evil laugh>

Bishop, whereabouts do you stay? Do you know what basestation you're connecting to?

Kai, I have no idea what basestation I am on. Where do I see that?

I am Douglasdale, below Fourways, right next to the N1, William Nicol.

After a night of downloading I am still impressed. The system feels fast. I can be downloading at 80KB, but web pages still open up instantly, etc.

No worries, I just wanted to know whether you were on the same basestation as me - that way I would know that mine is good as well. I apparently connect to Northcliff - the same tower as their headoffice.

I can't wait to play tonight, didn't have much time last night 'cos I'm having trouble getting my network sorted out... ugh.

It is quick - like it is said here - 1mbps, 10GB cap, no shaping, R699 p/m with option to buy more GB's....WBS must be sensible as well, if they are I will promote this to everyone I know, hell even become a re-seller...[;)]
