some help with new adsl installation

I'm trying to help a friend out here, he's moved into a house that used to have adsl, but the service was cancelled. The line is still intact but there's no account attached.

He wants adsl, so phoned telkom and they told him it's going to cost R1000 fo "installation". This sounds incorrect. Can anyone confirm the procedure for activating adsl on an unused line?
 
we only payed R500 for installation so R1000 is a ripoff also do a self install.

But since its installed already dont see why you have to pay R1000 to have it activated again
 
If you sign up to closer 1 you don't pay an installation fee for the voice line. If you do self-install on the ADSL line, you don't pay an installation fee for that either.
 
You unfortunately have to have the voice line included :(

Has been one of our prime problems with Telkom's ADSL service pricing for years.

Is there perhaps an old outstanding account from the previous owners / users ????

Might be that Telkom are trying to recover that from the NEW owners / subscribers :confused:
