Sony Ericsson P990i

Corrupt error msg for radio with R5A17 firmware

Hi Bruce

I also had some problems with the radio (couldn't autostore channels). I did a master reset which sorted out the problem.

For your problem, check esato forums specifically this link:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=145222&start=165#post1951015

BTW: I also managed to transfer radio sound to laptop by updating blurtooth drivers for my laptop to support Advanced audio.

No restarts on the new firmware yet... my P990i feels solid & responsive.

*I do restart my P990i every four to five days, in order to clean the screen properly & see the cool progress bar. Me likes it a lot! :)

*Also close open apps from time to time & always close the camera app just after I've used the camera - apparently it drains the battery if it's running in the background.

i have tried a master reset and synched my contacts back but it seem i sometimes dont get calls.

Ppl have been complaining my phone is off!! Eish

I've also had that - my phone is on, but the next day people tell me that they tried to get hold of me with no joy. Weird.

I've also been having that. I thought it was the phone, so I swapped. I think it's the networks. Anyways.

Sometimes I get this icon which looks like a phone with a line through it. When I click it, it says "GPRS - CALLS Not allowed' with a setting button. If I go into flight mode, then back into phone mode - it goes away.

Never seen this behavior. I am with MTN.

anyone notice this...

i kinda never new what it was but it really irritated me and now ive worked out what its doing...

im very used to SE's T9 predictive text, having used it since they began using it.

now check out this weird thing on the 990 version.. when you end a sentence and add a full stop.... for example last word is .... "did" and you add a full stop straight after that. "did." all is good and you can then downarrow to make the full stop a comma or question mark etc.... now try the same thing with the word "up" add a fullstop and it changes to "vp." there is a handful of words that this happens, ad a full stop and it changes the word.
which bugs the living daylights out of me when im trying to reply fast and it does this...

anyone pick this up?

Nope. Most of my messages are in Afrikaans, so I've got T9 disabled.

I'm still waiting for the Afrikaans version of T9 predictive text... :)

Hi KVI - Haven't seen that yet. Will try it out.

@ the King - When typing your SMSe in Afrikaans on the keyboard (FO mode) it remembers each afrikaans word, so pretty quickly your built-predictive text works also with those stored Afrikaans words. It a self-learning predictive text feature, and is really impressive (to me). But you have to type those Afrikaans words in FO mode.

@Broken1: the solution is quite simple. Just make a new internet connection under internet connections in the control panel. The problem lies with the stupid internet settings they've installed on the phone. Alternatively, just type *111# and redownload ur settings. Let me know if u need further help.

@ Gecko

T9 is impressive, but I still write faster with my stylus on the screen than have to wait for it to catch up. ;)

I'm on my second Martin Fields screen protector now and waiting for DomL to ship me my next two.

You are really tough on your screen! :D I'm still on my first screen protector and still looks new. Imagine if you haven't had those screen protectors!

I Get that 2. To Me it looks like a microphone. :(

Bluetooth Sending on latest FW

Can anyone please check if they have the same problem after upgrading to the latest FW:

I've noticed that I don't have a Send via Bluetooth option anymore.. Send via MMS and IR are still there, but Bluetooth disappeared completely from all menus where I want to send something (pictures, File Manager, SMan etc.) This is while I have Bluetooth permanently switched on (as always).

I don't know whether it was like this from the upgrade onwards, but I've only noticed it now. I am on Org: R5A17.

Can someone please confirm?

I couldn't simulate this since I use my phone with the flip removed for now. Still Predictive text, but to a lesser extend since one have the full qwerty keyboard available for typing.

Hi Gecko,

I have just checked now and I still have the bluetooth option...
Not sure what cold be causeing it...
Did your upgrade go thru smoothly?

If not peraps try re-applying the firmware update and see what happens?

Will do some research and see I can come up with anything

Hi All,

I told you all that I would let you know once the Software becomes available for SE P990's to turn your phone into a webcam...

Here is the link : http://www.warelex.com/products/webcam/index.php

It works well... the unfortunate thing is that it only uses the rear camera for now... They are busy with development to use the front cam and the microphone... thus creating a fully functional webcam with Skype cababilities.

If anyone wants more info PM me. :D

Thanks Nixxon. I think my upgrade went smoothly. The phone is really performing well, and this is the first time I see something funny after upgrading ( 2-3 weeks ago).

I guess I must re-apply the FW upgrade again, but doing that I will have to reinstall all my settings, programs etc. What a mission.

Thanks for your response though!

Still haven't had any restarts with my P990i - and I think the phone is working better & better, cos our thread is becoming very quiet. :)

One more update - the much rumoured Symbian OS 9.3 + R6 - and then no more. However, my phone is stable with R5, but it would be very nice. ;)
