:) I'm watching this thread on a daily basis!

Also the P990 firmware thread on My-Symbian. "Ares" is quite optimistic about a major upgrade August/September (after R6 in June with lotsof bug fixes). And Michal Jerez confirmed that when the P1 launches in September this year, all UIQ3 devices (P990, M600 and W950) will be be upgraded to the same level as the P1's OS and features. That's great news, even if we don't get Symbian 9.3 or similar.
 
I need some advice - I'm on my second Martin Fields screen protector now and only had my phone since December. :(

At this rate, I'll have to order another 10 screen protectors till my contract expires. :eek:
 
Why you going through them at such a rate. I still have my original on and its fine. I write on my screen every day.

I think I might be writing too hard on the screen, but I do write a lot and I've never used the keyboard.... :sick:

My P910i got two screen replacements, till I read about screen protectors. :eek:

Ok, I found the cure!!

Take the screen protector off, rotate it 180 degrees and stick it back on the screen. Looks a bit nasty, few 'bubbles' underneath the screen protector, but it works!

Now I've got a big white 'hole' at the top of my screen. Damn, I was SO tempted to write on that beautiful screen when I took the screen protector off - screen still looks like the day I got my P990i. :eek:

Only need to order another 6 screen protectors now.... :)

That whole thing of people not being able to get hold of you happened to me this weekend for the first time - but yeah it's annoying. My charger also won't stay in, it clips out on the right hand side, so now I can only charge with the desktop-stand-thingie. It's a bit frustrating.

What I would like to know is whether anyone has heard whether or not they're making a flash player for UIQ 3 as of yet? It's one thing I seriously miss...

Weird P990! My phone seems to go nuts when i use a theme from the list provided??? switches off,restarts at night for no reason, alarm doesnt sound & dont receive call sometimes???

When i reverted back to my spiderman3 theme PERFECT what gives?
 
maybe yours themes are corrupt... download them again

ps... the best theme in the world STILL is vista theme

No, the PC Suite is not 'officially' Vista compatible yet - but I've read some guys got workarounds for it in Vista. Google is your friend. ;)

Another reason to wait for Vista SP1. :)

It has been running on my P990i since the day you gave us the link...thank you, kvi. :)

Quite interesting, normally when I installed the Vista theme on the older firmware, I had to reboot the phone - the OS didn't display the theme correctly after an install.

With the latest official firmware, I installed it and it displayed the theme correctly right away. ;)
 
P1 theme

I am using the p1i default theme on my p990i. Got it off the forums on se-uiq from ares post on p700 themes: http://www.widgx.org/pfiles/296/P7themes.rar . I think its a good change compared to the vista theme if you change the default wallpapers. the contrasting colours of selection stand up better in direct sun.

Also, gave up using the silicone skin from capdase, makes the phone look way too bulky-I'm using a golla hip pouch now.

Is anyone using p990i with flip removed. If you are please let me know if its easier to message with T9. Haven't tried using my phone without flip yet, but I'm considering it to make it less bulky.

Thanks for the theme!

I've decided to use my p990 for a while without the flip (since the phone looks way sexier without the flip), and now after nearly 2 months I think I'm converted. Having the flip is definitely more convenient I must admit, but after a week or two of frustration (getting used to quick dialing, SMS browsing, etc) without the flip, I am used to it now and all is good. Also with Handy Day's Day- and Favorites (short cuts) views, the phone gets a very nice PDA feel to it with easy access to SMS, dailing, apps, etc. ( http://my-symbian.com/uiq3/software/applications.php?fldAuto=14&faq=3 )

Also typing with keyboard is fast if you get used to it, and the T9 predictive text works really well. Remembering 'sequence of words' is impressive.

It's worth a try.
 
Ok, of the three themes, 'horizon' looks the best imo, but don't like the text display. 'Silk' looks rubbish.

Ah well, back to my Vista theme then.... :)

Greetings to all.

You appear to be an intelligent, witty and interesting group of people. Allow me to introduce myself, I am V3rT|g0. Apologies with those who dislike the strange combination of symbols, but I am and always have been "V3rT|g0". However, I don't mind being referred to as Vertigo or just vert should that be easier.

Now, to get to the point. The SE P990 has been around a while and has by become fairly established. My cellphone contract is now due for an upgrade and I am considering getting this promising looking phone within about a week. I have never owned a Smartphone before, but fell in love with SE with the A1018 (which had a clock/alarm, showed when it was charging and could utilise the Short Message Service amongst other "amazing things"!). After drifting a bit to LG, Samsung and Nokia and being frustrated with their absolutely pathetic devices, I returned to the flock from the the SE K700 and have never looked back. Now, before jumping for the P990 with my upgrade, I would like to pose a few short questions to this forum.

1) After using it for a while, would you guys still recommend the P990i? Are you happier for having it or are there other much better options out there.

2) a. If I get my phone next week, 1 June 2007, will it come with the latest Firmware?
b. If not, would you recommend upgrading to the latest Firmware before doing anything else?
c. What is the latest Firmware and how do I get hold of it.

3) Which are the "Essential" Applications/Games to acquire for this phone.
I've heard a lot about Swiss Manager and Tweak Peaks. What happens when their 2 week trial runs out... do the apps just stop working?

4) Which Theme would you recommend as the best (or your favourite) in terms of looks/efficiency etc? (I see the new debate on themes, so was just wondering if there is an old favourite that you enjoyed using for a long time)

5) Lastly is it worth buying extra styluses (styli?), screen protectors and / or cases. Does it come with a case?

Alright that's all I have for now. Hope you can help me. I look forward to your replies to my questions. If you can answer these I have some much more technical and difficult questions to pose and debate. Thank you for the opportunity to join your forum.
