Sorry to hear PsyLenT! That really sucks. I'll be on the lookout for a good P990/W950. Their prices dropped quite a bit due to the whole FW bugs issue, so I am sure you will get something at a good price.
Keep an eye on on BidorBuy. I bought my P910i on it for a very reasonable price.

And don't disappear even if you don't get a P990/W950!

Might I suggest signing up for a new contract with MTN? It works out to about R3600 for the entire 24 months on MyCall 100 (R149 a month) and you'll get the phone plus the free minutes. Although the Expanys price is pretty good too.
 
I am not working full time at the moment so can't really do that - but I am just sniffling around in case I land something great great. I want to buy a phone cash if I can organise the cash and when I do land a full time job I want to take out a 2nd contract for the Nokia E90

Wonder if I can get used again to a phone without a touch screen?

I bought the P800 in 2002, the P900 in 2004, the P910 in 2005 and the P990 in 2006.

Don't think I can do it. :sick:

Kingrob, I now have the N95 too but really without a touch screen, I battle. Still use the P910I, I do not even know If I will ever get used to the lack of TOUCH. To many keystrokes, to big a finger.
 
I'm okay with losing the touch screen - provided using the phone still feels efficient. I am stuck with a samsung D500 now and it makes me want to cry!

Just check that your Samsung mobile doesn't phone your Samsung microwave, or Samsung washing machine - and use up all your talk time. :sick:
 
Nope, just a minor upgrade.

Memory management still the same, but the spacebar bug has been fixed.

Yes, I miss her too! Aqualung, you are awfully quiet..

Regarding the FW upgrade, I upgraded last night, but haven't had time to test it well. Definitely minor upgrade, but there *seems* to be slightly more available memory.

Very disappointed in SE - looks like they did not look at the Wiki bug list at all. So much for all our efforts to update and maintain that list. :(

Yebo Yes, also a tad disappointed. Mind you, my phone is still an absolute joy to use - love it to bits!

For the future, if no more firmware updates will be coming our way, I'll make sure the P1000 gets released and then my P990i will have an 'accident' with my car's front wheel.... :eek: :) :p
 
One of the members (Koto) posted the following feedback of the new Firmware on My-Symbian:

My impresions on new fw:

good:
- space bar bug - fixed
- long email bug - fixed
- edit before call - works fine
- pressing jog in order to get drop-down list of previously used contacts while crating a new message now works fine
- mp3 files are louder through headphones
- phone itself very fast
- camera opens faster
- combination of web (opera) + message app + media are less memory hungry than with previous fw

bad:
- memory leak as with previous fws
- low ram amount on startup as with previous fws

So far - good improvement as major bugs are fixed. Phone is absolutely stable, fast and functional with exception regarding multitasking where very slight improvement has been made.

I haven't had time to confirm above yet.

Is the new firmware available on SEUS for the vodacom branded P990's?

No.

You'll have to wait at least a month ( and quite possibly longer ) to get this from Vodacom.
Alternately, you can ask Vodacom to debrand your phone and replace it with generic firmware - thus freeing you up to update via SEUS online.

Why, just let it swim and claim a loss! Anyhow I will wait for your final verdict before I take two P990I's Already have twp N95's cannot stomach any more :D
