Sony Ericsson P990i

The streaming you referring would be an IP-based stream and the P990 should support this (once Volantis has an entry for it). This would work in the same way that many of the higher-end devices support video streaming.
However, this streaming is not the same DVB-H and normal handset's cannot be upgraded for DVB-H.
MTNDD

MTNDD..yes..it is just the normal 3G IP-based streaming that I am after. DVB-H is only for folks who want that single ugly-assed handset that supports it :)
I am probably not the only P990 user that is going to want to see LiveTV or streaming traffic cameras soon..so please can you see what you can do about escalating the ticket with Volantis?
I find it odd that they would not have updated the db with a new phone like the P990. It is the sole reason I bought the phone..since my P900 wasn't capable, and the P990 should easily be capable of supporting live streaming?
Btw..any inside info on whether or not MTN has plans to add additional channels besides CNN and fashion TV? Vodacom has about 16...but believe it or not...their branding of the phones cost them the contract.

@Glock26

I'll try and find out if we plan on expanding on the two channel's already available

Thanks MTNDD

Hmm...Locationfree. Sounds interesting, but who knows when it would be available here, and the price.
I think we would also need reliable and cheap broadband from Telkom to get this working properly..and we all know the slim chances of that in SA :-)
Am going to push the Volantis issue further...as MTN needs to either sort it out, or tell subscribers that the phone does not work with live streaming in SA. Right now I am paying for 100mb data bundle that I can't use.

Thanks MTNDD,

Much appreciated, and I'm not unreasonable..will give them a while to see if they can sort it out.

Just out of interest..are you here in the forums in an official capacity...or just out of personal work ethic?
I think it's great that MTN do have someone on the forums, and it would be to their advantage to have it sanctioned, but I suppose this can't always be the case.

We all help out as part of personal work ethic, this wouldnt form part of our daily chores. i dunno how data dude finds them time to answer all these queries,i answer minimally and i can bearly keep my head above my own workload :D

Admit it...you just participate here as an excuse to surf the net while at work :) :)
But seriously..it is much appreciated..all of you MTN guys.

@ Kingrob...

I saw your comments on the Battery life in a previous post...
Just to let you know the Bluetooth on the P990i has a power saving function... So you can leave it on and it doesn't chew battery...

I have had mine since thursday and I have the Parrot LS 3200 Carkit and it doesn't take much of the battery at all...

On a different note... has anyone noticed that when you set your location in your clock that the location for your alarms changes to london? and if you try and change it to Pretoria that it changes your current location back to london...

This is very strange!! LOL :)

Otherwise I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE!!!!

Regards,

Nixxon

Nixxon, thank you so much for this post - bluetooth sucking the phone's battery dry was a huge worry for me.

Kingrob are you still enjoying your phone. I'm a little weary about the phone since I've read all the bad review. Scared of making a mistake:confused:
Should be picking mine up on Wednesday.
Cheers

Bruce, I haven't got a P990i yet, still using my P910i. My name is on the waiting list for a P990i at MTN Centurion and I should get one soon. Hopefully the P990i's software will have RC1 status by then....

But, yes, it must be the first time that I'm not 100% sure if I should get this phone - oh, well, I'll just hold Auqalung responsible if it's a dud. :)

The alternative : http://www.expansys.com/zoompic.aspx?type=item&i=141579

Cool So I can also blame Auqalung. Thanks for that. N95 looks good. But don't think i can wait another year for that to come out.
Any comment on my previous post Nixxon or any of you lucky guys who already have the P990?
Any comment will be appreciated.
Thanks
Bruce
