Oh king this thread is starting to read like a frigging novel. The RTFF is becoming a task that will take you about an hour or two. You will have to give page ref in the future.:D
I can't remember half the tips we've given each other. Oh another cool thing I've discovered that if you want to get into your contact quickly you press and hold the number that represents the letter of the name your looking for and it goes straight into your contacts. But being the king you most probably know that:rolleyes:

No, that is a really cool tip, the king was not aware of its existance... :)

*Learning the 'secret' functions of the P990i is almost as cool as when Windows95 first hit the shelves...

geez king, you were obviously on a SE man before? thats standard SE practise for last 5 years :)

now please direct me to page number for battery life seminar...

K these are the tips i found searching:

1) Switch off wlan.
2) Switch off Blueteeth.
3) Switch network to gprs only.
4) Backlight 60%.
5) Switch off area info.
6) Use SwissManager to close unwanted apps as you close the flip or when idle (thanks to L_mo)

Yes, I repeated this behaviour on my P910i - and wondered why I never used it? Oh, because of the 5-way jog dial... :)

Oh, dear, I'll have to do some RTFF myself... ;)

That is spot on, web!

I charged my battery the first time for 4 hours, then let it 'drain' completely, charged it for 5 hours and let it 'drain' again, then charged it for 6 hours - got the tip from a posting on the Esato forums.

*Lets hope the rumoured BST-34 battery will be released in SA next year...
 
Yip been letting the phone "die" before recharging also, try and disable usb charging otherwise every time you connect the phone to your computer gets a little charge and doesn't help battery life in the long run.

So glad the USB is hi-speed now, the cable connection for the P910i was super-slow. :(
 
Iv been using those things bout bt off etc on my P800 since I bought it 3 years ago and my battery performance is still as it was back then.

MTNDD can u hold a P990i for me till my upgrade in October? But if SE comes up with another phone like it I would upgrade to that anyway. I have been a SE fan since my T300 and will never go for another phone.

SE will probably not come up with another UIQ smart phone by then so we can call it a back up. Coz with my luck they would be out of production and stock by then. I know coz I struggled 2 years to get hold of my P800 to buy it cash.

Hi, i just have a question to ask. got my p990 today and it is busy charging, but
i noticed that when i open up some menu options such a typing a sms, a black sideways small triangle forms on the right hand side middle of the screen and when i press it it exits that specific menu item. It is weird coz it covers the middle of the scroll bar? What the heck is it!!!

havent a clue, anybody with one of these handsets please advise or alternatively 0800612121- number for sony ericsson helpline
 
Hi, just realised that whenever i want to type something, that black triangle thing appears. it is like the screen has turned off in that area. how do i flash the fone and reinstall the software coz that could possibly help. please advise. i also want to know how to use swiss manager, do you keep it running or only open it when u need it? thanks.

That triangle will always appear in any window where you want to type...

It divides the writing area into three parts -

above the triangle, write numbers
below it, write letters
at the level of the triangle, writing here will produce capitals

so if you write "s" below the triangle, it comes out as "s", above it, "s" will come out as "5"

Swiss manager comes with setup options available on install if I remember, however if you think about it , it makes sense to have it running in the background .

Click on SM in the control panel, now click on the arrow at the top of the screen, it pulls down some options including "Settings"--> suggest check " cleanup on closing flip" and "cleanup when idle"

Enjoy your new toy ;)
