Sony Ericsson P990i

Hi Cha Cha,

When in FO Mode, go into Messages... in the top right corner of the screen you will see a folder icon with a drop down arrow. Click on this and it will bring up a menu which has a Edit Folders option... This should allow you to create new folders, etc.

In FC mode, go into Messages... push the "more" button, scroll down to "View Folder" and the Select Edit Folders...

I hope this helps :)

Let me know if you get stuck

Hi Nixxon!

Thanks. I've checked out the above. It works for saving 'incoming sms's'. What I want to do is save my 'sent' messages to different folders. Either this facility doesn't seem to be avaliable or, if available is not on my phone! Will appreciate it if there's any more help.

Thanks
ChaCha

Well, I was 'stuck' here in Irene over Xmas, couldn't go to Cape Town and, if that was not bad enough, we had constant downpours of rain for a whole week. :(

But, 2007 is just starting, and I'm already having fun! :)

*You REALLY must switch off and enjoy your holiday!! I'm sure Pitbull & Snakepit are more than capable to look after things while you're away

Hey, Happy new year everyone!!!!! i have a message for snakepit and pitbull. i have had my p990 for about 2 weeks. I run a buisness and need my fone for obvious reasons. My p990 has been giving me some kernal errors and crashing which is obviously due to the memory leak. i have the latest firmware and this still happens. i took the fone back to my mtn store but they say that all the other p990 are perfect and dont have this memory leak!!! they sent my fone in to get "fixed" but this process will take 4 weeks!!! i know the fone will come back the same coz i already have the latest firmware!! i cant not have a fone for 4 weeks. my buisness is still small and i need it!!! why should i pay so much money for a contract and not have a phone to say anything for it. is it possible to get the fone swapped out for something else. my mtn store ignores me and they say that my fone is the only one with this mem leak. Please help!!!! i cant take this much more!!!!! your advice will be greatly appreciated!!!:o

Complete BS about the 'memory leak' - how could you fall for that?????

BUT, you're not alone. MTN disconnected my number again this morning (3rd time this month!!) and when I phoned the helpdesk, the guy said it might be back by Friday?!

And my whole business runs on that single phone number - go figure.

Ok guys & gals, I upgraded my P990i's firmware this morning.

Yes, I know I said in an earlier post that I'll first wait for the reports, but because MTN disconnected my number again, I couldn't do much with my phone - so, I decided to upgrade my firmware!

The whole process took about 20 minutes, from downloading the update to installing it on the phone - quite amazing that you can reprogram a mobile phone over the internet!

We're also very lucky to be with MTN, because we get the 'generic' firmware update (always first in the que :)) & no hassles with customized firmware updates (think Vodacom ;)).

Well, haven't noticed anything new, except the memory leaks seems to be less. I've played around with the phone a lot, opening up every app that I could think of, then closing it all with task manager & still had 10.6MB RAM to play with - not too shabby. :)

Haven't installed Swiss Manager yet, but it seems there are one or two issues between SM and the new firmware. Mind you, it would seem that Task Manager is now working properly (let's call it Swiss Manager 'lite')- actually getting the RAM back from the apps when you close it...

*Oh, something I did notice in Media Player - it now displays the album art for a CD or song...very cool.

Anyway, here is a posting of what other people are experiencing with the new firmware (copied from www.my-symbian.com):

1. UI is faster
2. improved memory management
3.faster start ups
4.speaker phone option is improved
5.calls are better logged
6. slide show and many options introduced into the picture gallery... this is fun
7. video playback is much faster
8.3g browsing is faster
9.better connectivity using gprs
10. USB cable to use file transfer or phone included when the usb is attached
and option to select this option when usb is plugged on
and also the usb icon has come
11.when disconnecting the usb cable option to turn on bluetooth does not come up
12.kernel errors and restarts dramatically reduced
13. Multitasking is working smoothly
14. sound volume has increased ????some one has to confirm this
15.changes in opera, like icon to close multiple tabs
16. file manger option added to many application like music player and picture viewer
16.option for updating files in the music player has been changed

Because my phone is disconnected from the MTN network, I cannot really test the call quality of the phone... :(

hey king

where you get your update from? when i log onto the updater it says ive got the latest?

aaaargh NOT looking good for me AGAIN

"I believe the version available on SEUS at the moment is for P990i's with generic Sonyericsson firmware...If you have a branded phone like mine (Vodafone) you will have to wait a bit more for the firmware to be modified by your vendor.."

Correct.

I'm sorry, kvi, but these things happen....

and i STILL cannot get my phone debranded. its been flashed twice at vodacom and still has that foooooking meerkat.

from what i understand, i officially have the generic software BUT with vodaCOM branding. i DONT have vodafone branding

when you went to the updater did it say "update available" ???

when you went to the updater did it say "update available" ???

Yes, it listed the update as 'generic worldwide update ' (I think that's what the updater said), then I clicked on 'Next' & it started with the download. Just like that. :)

My phone is now :

Phone: CXC162037 R9EA001
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R5A01
Organizer: CXC162036 R4A13
CDA: CDA162007/1 R4A09

*Hey, something good is happening to my P990i!! I just checked 'status' to write down my firmware versions and my phone now has 15.1MB memory free - could NEVER get more than 13.3MB!! And I'm not even running Swiss Manager?! ;)

I think we're getting closer to the ultimate smartphone on the planet.... :)
