Sony Ericsson P990i

@Piesang

IF the iPhone hits our shores this year it will be hideously expensive. ( I'm only up for upgrade in about a year anyway), so I'll watch it's release...If it lives up to it's promise though, the P990 successor ( M610i or what ever it will be ) will have to be awesome to keep me from trying the Apple offering out eventually

@kingrob

SE have apparently said they will not support Mac, they are looking to Apple to support them with iSync plugins etc
I'd rather their cadre of programmers kept tweaking the smartphone firmware than be diverted to coding for Mac, doesn't sound like they can do both...
Anyway when Leopard ( next incarnation of Mac OS ) is released in a couple of months, it'll support Bootcamp so there's no issue really ( Bootcamp allows one to run Windows within MacOS )

;)

So iSync can sync contacts between your P990i and Mac?

My whole business is on my phone, so I need to sync every night. Two years ago, when I got hi-jacked at Irene BP, the criminals drove off with my car, my P900 and my whole business. Took me a while to get going again....

*I can't wait for the new firmware update - it would seem this is a pukka update, according to Oblo.

If I can reach 'P910i status' with my P990i - rock-solid & the best smartphone on the market - it will be a super day for the king. :)

Can't wait to see what the new firmware update holds myself, although I am having less and less problems with my phone. My biggest frustration is that if I've logged on and off mxit a number of times, it won't open anymore unless I reboot.

@aqualung - I am admittedly not one of those who became an instant iphone fan - still ain't. I am VERY impressed with it's interface, how it looks, etc. - but it lacks so much connectivity it seems like it would be a waste. Either way I hope it's a major hit, so that other phone makers can take what makes an iphone good, and integrate it into their products. But I think the only phone that could make me deviate from my P990i is the Nokia E90.

BUT that's all in the future, lets all hope our HERE AND NOW is about to get much better! OH and btw aqualang thanx for mentioning that iphone theme - I downloaded it and it's awesome - love it!

Hi Guys,

Any news on the firmware update?? I still haven't updated on the last release... been waiting for the big one :)

Hopefully it releases today so I only have to update once :)

otherwise, where did you guys get the iphone theme from :) Very interested to have a look see :)

Just an update on the webcam software... still busy with the beta testing... the app works well and its easy to use... you can use with all messengers, etc. Only one hiccup... It doesn't look like you can use the front camera, but I am working on that with the developers...

Hope you all have a good one...

Holding thumbs for today on the fw release :D

Guys, it seems the new firmware is out!!!

Firmware Info:
Phone:CXC162037 R9F11
BT:CXC162058 R5A01
Organizer:CXC162036 R5A16
CDA:162007/1 R5A13

Damn, must go home to do the upgrade!!!

@aqualung - you owe me... ;)

Okay just did the upgrade!

First thing I'm noticing - a progress bar for boot up. Looks pretty neat!

Now going through the download settings process - all pretty standard. Guess I'll only figure out what's new by playing around but YAY! At least it is true - transitions can now be turned off!

WOOOOHOOOO

Dammit, I can't wait to go home and do the upgrade!!

*This time I'm gonna format the internal drive first....

Hi guys,

Busy doing the update now... I am really looking forward to it finishing cause I a missed the last one in wait for this "Oober" update... :)

I really hope that this one sorts out the majority of the issues... :)

Anyone know where the IPhone Theme is for the P990?

Thanks...

Typing text with the numpad is definately faster now, because of the transitions being removed.

I hope aqualung had a turn at the work computer lol!

Heh heh

Yes I sat hunched possessively over the keyboard this afternoon...fortunately colleagues all on various missions...those that wandered into the office were pretty cool about not getting access to the machine...!

Yeeessss! Now this is an update worth talking about !

Phone's faster than with TweakPeaks running...as everyone says it feels like a P910 !
Ability to install apps from FC mode now...

Phone is fast fast fast ! Happy !!!!:D

more tests to follow...this is a seriously good update...

EDIT : well the themes install from FC anyway, haven't yet found an app that does

D'you think I'd just hand the phone in and walk away ? The tech would be subjected to a thorough interrogation first...;)

I de-meerkatted at the Vodacare in Green Point. It was no problem once I quoted the process that Ernest provided to the list. They phoned the head tech guy in Jhb. So they now know the drill. :D

[It received my phone 24 hrs later not by midday as promised - as it was taking time to update as a new update had just came out and the SEUS server was busy.]

Blackberry Enterprise Server on new firmware?

To the new firmware adopters

Can anyone confirm success with the BB Connect on the new firmware with Vodacom? It seems the my-symbian lists there is not a clear answer on this.

hoooorrrayyyyy

even from nigeria, i managed to do the firmware update... it took like 15 minutes

Be interesting to hear everyone's feedback...

Oh, Nixxon, the iPhone theme you can find on a website called deviantart, also on a site called...hmmm...UIQ I think. Google it. If that fails PM me and I'll send it to you...

Hey guys, check out

http://groups.google.com/group/cdc-apps

for 3 amazing apps - able to browse network neighbourhood through WLAN, automatically sync files on phone to an FTP server continuously etc...

My fear is that these apps allows access to your private info on your phone, as well as remote access, and they could actually be sending all your contacts, calendar, notes etc to someone...

What do you guys think? Great apps, but potential to be spyware....

Ah! A nice 'pressie' with the new firmware - you can now transfer the sound of your FM Radio to the phone's speaker!

Now I can put my R6000 radio on the desk and listen to Highveld all day long. :)

Looks like Office XP & my P990i can finally sync properly.... happy days are here!

LOL Kingrob, either you were just half asleep and didn't notice that you could transfer the radio sound before, OR it was part of that minor update you avoided lol, because I have been doing it for a while now :P
