Sony Ericsson P990i

I read that Windows Media Audio is now supported by the P990i's latest firmware, not that I'll ever use it, but it's nice to know....

*My P990i has not had a 'hiccup' since I installed the new firmware - cool bananas. :)

I ordered two Martin Fields screen protectors + leather pouch for my P990i from DomL, but I think it got 'redistributed' at the Post Office depot in Johannesburg.

Very sad about it, so I decided to email them in any case - check this out!

Is this for real?

That is what I call service. Looks like their friendly service is on par with Virgin Mobile's service.:D

Just a pity that Virgin Mobile is dependant on CellZ - and by the looks of it, CellZ is in a financial mess...

I was actually talking about the personal service.

The people working at Virgin Mobile can teach lots of other people how to please their clients.:D ;)

I really hope Richard Branson makes a bid for CellC and it becomes Virgin Mobile, but it's not really the way Virgin operates.

Mind you, they've already bailed out the Health & Racquet Clubs....

I my opninion, I think that will cause huge problems for MTN and Vodacom.

Just imagine Virgin Mobile with the kind of coverage and HSDPA/3G technology.

No contracts but contract rates all the way.

It will be huge.

It will be great for the SA mobile telecoms arena.... we can just hope. :(

im overseas at the moment and during my line of work today i got to play with the N95...

its exactly the same as when the hype for the "video" n93 came out and then we had to make a tv commercial with the phone.... it was rubbish.
the 95 feels like a toy. it feels like a nokia. it does not have that sturdy quality "pda" feel like the tytn and 990 or the hp's...

sorry guys, it might have some cool gimmicks but its still a nokia....

flame away... :)

That's your opinion. And I respect your opinion. Like they say in the video on youtube, The N95 is a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" and I respect that opinion as well.

If I wanted a PDA (another one), the I wouldve gone for the Tytn or maybe even the P990i, but I think the N95 is going to be more fun for me. Its got more gadgets, I think the guy on the video said 17, than any phone available. So I am sure th N95 will keep me busy for a long time before I get tired of it. And then, who knows, maybe I'll trade it in for 2 P990i's.

Interesting - I use an internet group to connect me for mail/web - first try my home wifi, then office wifi, then Vodacom 3G/GPRS. However, installing Opera Mini, it will not try all three, simply the first one and then give connection problem if I'm not at home... anyone know how to get opera mini/any java app to use an internet group instead of a single internet account?

Just want to say that my P990i is super-dooper after the latest firmware update - no restarts yet and, with transitions switched off, very fast!! :)

I've created a 'dial-up' group and use that for internet surfing and it works really well.

Same if I tap on 'Get&Send' under Messages, it checks all my mailboxes defined under Email accounts. Will play with it a bit more....

Bruce, I use mxit/jmirc a lot on my phone and frequently have that problem where I constantly have to change the net account back to 'vodacom' if I'd been using my wifi at home for mxit.

For some reason java applications don't work their way through group-internet accounts - so if anyone else out there has managed to solve this problem let us know!

i personally find mxit a bit frustrating on the 990... works in a weird way.
i only use im+... bought it for like R120 . best software ive ever bought. but then again i only hang out on google talk

My P990i is still rock-solid after the firmware update - the only difference was that I did a master reset before the update.

Extremely happy with my phone now - time for the 8GB memory stick duo... ;)

I agree with the King, my P990 is finally on par with my P910 in terms of speed.
Phone is starting to feel like a solid PDA. I am very happy. Still some major bugs though, but I'm happy.

And their's truly exciting rumors about the upcoming R6 firmware in 2 months time.. People thinking we might be upgraded to Symbian 9.3 OS.. but this is all speculation.

I also received excellent service from DOML.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.... :)

Even if they don't 'upgrade' our P990i's to OS 9.3, I'd still be happy - my phone has been rock-solid after the update.
