Hi there,

i have a sony vaio laptop model vgn-tx47
i forget the password that i set on bios. sony SA told me i have to give them the laptop for 7 to 14 days and they cant save my data.
is there any way i can save my data and flash the bios at home. friend told me i can transfer data to external hard drive. but flash the bios still a problem. please help me out guys, i cant afford to sta:confused:y without my laptop for 14 days.
thnx.

I would assume there is a jumper setting on the mobo somewhere to clear bios passwords. You can remove the hard drive and copy the data off. You'll need to buy a drive caddy to do mount the laptop drive in.

Have you set a bios password to prevent the laptop from booting without the password being entered or a password to restrict access to the the bios settings? The later is easy to fix, just update the bios from your operating system.

i enterd the password to rstrict access to bios.

im gonna do that tonight. sound easy n good.
il thank you tomorrow. depends.

All of the custom BIOS settings (such as the password) are stored on a chip (to make the explaination easy) which is powered by the CMOS battery. If you remove the battery for a period of time (I'd say about 20 minutes) then the power supply for those custom settings is cut off and the custom settings are erased.

So it should work :D Just remember that any custom options (such as boot priority) will also be lost, so be sure to customize your BIOS again ;)

Yeah, clearing should work. Disconnect all power, remove the battery and set the Clear BIOS pin to Clear :p

You can short the battery holder negative and positive pin (the holder that held the battery you removed) if you can find the jumper, that should cause and residual charge from capacitors to clear.

WARNING: In the unlikely event that something is damaged I take no responsibility :)

thanks guys, it came right. 100%.
special thnx to Genome,WKJ?beanie. and others.
