Speed is 33.65 kbits/sec. Beginning of the month...gives us an idea of Telkom's policies regarding contention ratio's and bandwidth allocation!

Hi guys

The service has deteriorated to something practically unusable. I just measured the speed at 15:43, Monday 3 November: 16.74 kbits/sec.

If you can, please measure your speeds and publish them. This is great statistical data for journalists and organizations to use when investigating ADSL.

Telkom Speed Test: 580.3 Kbps or 71.1 kBytes/sec

So when you complain to Telkom about speed, they tell you to go to their site and do a speed test. You get a whopping 71.1kB/sec speed, so obviously there is nothing wrong with your speed. Well DUH, then why are not only international but my local sites timing out? Something is not right. I'm sure their speed test is doctored to look good.

I cannot even get the speed test to run properly. It sits there staring blankly at me until I give up. When I did get a result, it was as follows:

your speed is

72.59 kbits/sec

I normally get speeds between 280 and 310 kbits/sec so this is awfully slow.

I thought I'll amuse myself and immediately after running the speed test over ADSL (results posted above) I ran the test again. This time, however, I was dialled in with a D211 Nokia card phone over GPRS (MTN) (network cable unplugged). Here's the result. It appears to be impossible, and makes one wonder about the correctness of the test. On the other hand, at this moment in time (12:25 on 4 November), the GPRS dial-up does appear do be almost the same speed as the ADSL link (which is ridiculously slow).

your speed is

30.4 kbits/sec

Hi everyone

With download accelerator (DAP 5.3) I get 50 kB/s on somedays - not all the time - with http file downloads.
Checked using advance settings modem = 510 kbits/s download speed.

Download for a USA site.
Does any else get this speed or higher? And before or after 3G cap limit?

I found that you tend to get a 20-odd GB grace period for your first month or so (at least, thats what happens to me), after that you revert to capped speeds, and after that you're stuck at the 3GB cap for future months. My first 20GB was blazingly fast, and due to me being over 3GB I thought to myself "hey, this isn't half as bad as the myADSL guys say it is", but now over subsequent months I've found it's pretty impossible to use the internet after hitting your 3GB cap (at least internationally - local remains speedyfast) without using a Proxy of some sort.
