Speed test

Umm...its the new month now..and..err..that 62 kbits speed test i got while capped last month has improved too a whopping 67kbits. Maybe i was just uncapped a little early??

It shouldn't be the exchange surely?...our suburb has about 7000 housholds (havn't met one without a phone yet) and only 3 ADSL users. Telkom was expecting alot more in our suburb i think since they where installing lots of new cable so we should have plenty of provisioned room on our dslam line right?

the space on the DSLAM is not the problem. Telkom provisioned each DSLAM with 3 "ADSL" card, each card can take 10 ADSL users. The line from the DSLAM to the ADSL could is where the problem start.
Kobie, it sounds like you will not have congestion problems on the exhange [:)]

Trying my downloads during daytime - hit the cap
in my first month too soon to try.

The results of today :

online 2:26:12

bytes received : 17,690,454
bytes sent : 1,195,467

Pathetic [V] [V]

It's EXTREMELY slow today :( My browsing is usually very fast - today I'm about to pull my hair out.

Yeah, I've also noticed it's VERY slow today...

Speed Test:

1. 16:29 - 74.26 kbits/sec
2. 16.30 - 60.19 kbits/sec
3. 16.31 - 87.02 kbits/sec

AVE = 73.83 kbits/sec

WTF [:(!]

My ADSL clocks at about 360kbps @ 18:22 on 2003-09-02. (Please don't test my firewall)

AHHHHHHHRRGGGGGGGGGGggggg [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

hi new member here , just done a speed test and got 284.44 venue capetown time 18:40 is this the norm?" or can i improve?

I don't know if anyone has noticed it, but HTTP speeds have greatly improved (the other services are still nonexistant though), as I've gotten in the region of 200-300Kbits/s for the Speed Test (as it runs over HTTP) - And that's while capped!

That said, trying to use any other protocol (FTP, etc.) that isn't local is shockingly bad - I've had to resort to an HTTP proxy for Messenger for Pete's sake, and thats not even bandwidth intensive! If I don't use the proxy I can't even connect to the service... it's THAT bad.

Dont understand why they dont cap us to at least the speed of a 56k modem. Then accessing international sites will be possible after the cap.
