Lambie 'better at No 10'

Cape Town - Springbok backline coach Ricardo Loubscher feels Pat Lambie's future in the Springbok team lies in the flyhalf position.

The 21-year-old played fullback for the Boks at last year's World Cup in New Zealand but has been mainly used at flyhalf by the Sharks in Super Rugby this year.

"I would say flyhalf is his best position. Pat took the right decisions under pressure at the Sharks and that’s what you expect from a flyhalf," Loubscher told Die Burger.

I am not sure if I agree. Guess it would be awesome to have Lambie and Goseen as your flyhalves in the next two years or so, but I would prefer them both on the part of their form holds etcetc.

I must also admit that I feel that Lambie will be great of the bench as he covers flyhalf but can move to full back and vice versa.

Not really, numbers 6 to 10 is where most of the tackling happens.

As much as it pains me to say it I don't see Goosen's career progressing all that far. The lad seems to be injury prone. Incredibly sad but I think that is going to rob the country and the world potentially one of the greatest flyhalves of all time...

I tend to agree with that sentiment. Lambie has massive potential and skill but his place in the starting XV is not a given IMO.

Lambie is worthless at the back. he does more when he is at flyhalf. he can take break and bring the backs into play with the style of rugby he plays. for a stable and reliable kicker is would choose Grant over Morne Steyn. Steyn buckles when he is under pressure, but has better drop kicks then anyone else.

Don't know about that, I seem to remember a penalty he took on the halfway line against the British and Irish lions to win the series.

I also seem to remember a conversion he took in the Super Rugby final against the Sharks to win the final. I also seem to remeber the penalty he took last year at Newlands to win it for the bulls.....

I would prefer Grant simply because imo he defends better and we have enough kicking options in the team to take the pressure of him kicking out of hand and for the longer range penalties.

Probably the best team out of the 32 players. Still a bit miffed about the exclusion of Brussow.

Regarding the bench. I think a 4/3 split is good. We must not under estimate the Poms back line.

Still feel Jannie is a hazard and not having Kruger on the bench could lead to a problem as even if Coenie can play tighthead it might not be as easy against Englands scrum....

I like the team, i think we will do good.

Also little cross because of Brussow, would have played Marcell nr7 and Heinrich nr6, they are number 1 and 4 on the stats for most tackles and let’s not forget Marcell Coetzee in nr5 with most runs.

I agree that Morné Steyn is the best flyhalf we have, everyone criticizes him, but just look at his stats....

Here is a little interesting information, Most penalties conceded, 4.D.Greyling with 20 and 6.W.Kruger with 19, so in total the bulls scrum has on their own conceded almost 40 penalties between them this season. Hopefully Frans Ludeke notices this, Coenie Oosthuizen is at nr3 with 21!, Let hope Heyneke does not decide to play him with Kruger

I am comfortable with the squad at the moment. The only question i have is why is Bryan Habana in the squad? He has done nothing good or great this year in the Super Rugby.

I can understand why Meyer has gone for Zane instead of Lambie. But Habana come on!. His defence is crap, he can't run the ball, he does not intercept like he used too and he does not score any tries. Why does everyone think that by waiting Habana will all of a sudden play like he used too. Maybe he should go back to the basics and play some curry cup.

I don't agree with you re Habana. I think he is playing much better than he used to the past 3 or so seasons.

His defence is certainly not crap. Otherwise other teams would have scored plenty of tries against the Stormers. And as it stands now the Stormers have conceded the least amount of tries this year. Habana is a master on scramble defense. And thank goodness he is not trying that intercept BS so much lately.

And there is only one person to be thanked for Habana's return to form. Dr Sherylle Calder, the eye doc.

I am happy with the squad and believe with the right game plan we will trample the Roses.

Perhaps you missed the game against Samoa in the World Cup when he stopped a man twice his size running at him full speed. I'd place a large bet that Krusy would've gotten run over in the same situation. The guy's got guys and BMT, you can't buy that stuff.

And the best part? Well Spies was not chosen as VC, which clearly means the talk about HM favouring Duane is likely true.

If anything is going to put some mongrel into spies it'll be the realisation that he is loosing his place. That hasnt been true for years!
