Spur Steaks Suck!

I went to a local restaurant in Potch last night, ordered me a fatty 500g rump to seek redemption.... From the Spur fiasco...... Agh!No! What the hell do the restaurants do to the steaks, pepper crusted, med to well was grey dry..... Better the Spur , but nowhere near what I can cook myself at home.... Tsk!tsk!

Moosie I think you should do a...erm...special post on your thread showing us all how to braai the perfect steak. With lotsa meatporn pictures and random cans of beer standing about...

That's the whole reason why I stopped considering Spur... when their prices were similar to Hussar Grill.

Although this is Hussar Grill Willowbridge... the steak used to be as good as it gets. As you can see by the rating - in line with the other branches.

Now at least 3 times since 2017 - rubbish. Won't be going back.

I was also very unimpressed by Hussar Grill at Willowbridge. And no baked potato and sour cream option? WTF? I eat baby potatoes with a braai or in a potjie...NOT with a R200 steak.

Best steak ever? The one I buy and cook myself.

PS> NOTHING at Spur can be called tasty or good or even edible...people that still eat there AND say it is good, should have their taste buds removed and given to science for testing.

They do make very good breakfast, the Trailblazer and Cheese Griller being my two favourites.

Had an awesome 300g Sirloin at Spur yesterday.
Was delicious.
Perfect cut of meat, done medium rare.

First and last time i refused to pay a cent, their chicken schnitzel tasted like fish.
Apparently I was "being spoilt" words from the manager.

Summary:

Spur steaks suck (Also their ribs)
If you like it, you have never eaten good food before.

That is all we eat at the Spur. We probably do it 3-4 a month now. For R200 our family of four can enjoy a good breakfast and still leave the waitress a very generous tip.

Me and a few guys from my team at work go for a Spur breakfast every Friday, it's a 3 minute walk from the office. The bottomless coffee is the right way to start any day.

Well, I regularly eat at many different independent eateries.... and Spurs steaks are as good as the best of them.
So your theory is denied.

Nope. You have terrible taste then.

Summary still stands.

OK so put your money where your mouth is then.
You'll cook me a perfect steak or take me out to dinner to eat the perfect steak.
So that I can see what the difference is then...
Because I think you guys are just full of bull.
This just seems to be another "let's hate on the popular thing thread and show how cool we are by being so different"
And I'm calling you guys on it. It's BS.
There is no way Spur would be the restaurant they are today if they served crap.
This is a cut-throat economy.
Bad service and bad food don't survive.

OK, we can do this...
but we need some ground rules though.
This thread is claiming that Spur steaks are not just mediocre, but that they are actually bad ... uneatable.
So how are we going to gauge this?

We need to organise a few outings to some Random Spur restaurants, and to some mutually agreed Indpendent Restaurants.
Then our panel of chosen experts can give us their honest findings.

Never order steak at restaurants, its the one thing that is so easy to prepare well yourself if you select the right cut and cook it yourself.

Went to turn and tender recently in cresta with the SO, the one guy was walking around with the different types of cuts... explaining the difference etc

i ended up ordering a t bone i think (done american style where they cut it for you)
the meat had absolutely no taste :( was not impressed at all. i ordered it done medium and it was done to perfection just the meat itself had no taste very bland. not sure if the meat was bad quality or they didnt marinate/season it properly.
