Stolen iPhone

None of what you said is "they're phising you bro", that is what one has to say to end users, you don't explain intricacies to them unless they ask.
True,if I was trying to get a layman to not click random links i'd sell it accordingly

The fact they redirect to apple directly(seemingly) is however the bone of contention currently

If anyone is interested, do not store a large amount of data in iCloud.

The backup for the stolen phone took about 2 days to complete the restore process on a 100Mb/s fibre connection.

It was about 80GB of data.

Bye-bye weekend.

It is also clear as day that Apple is throttling iCloud backups and restores.

"But even Apple admits that even with the strongest connection, it might still take 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte to complete the process."

The replacement phone, an iPhone 11 Pro, also overheated during the process, and had to be cooled down in order for the restore to proceed.

That is absolutely painful. My stuff is backed up to iCloud and Google for personal, and then MS OneDrive for work with the work account.

Interesting however I haven't experienced that before. I can say iCloud backups aren't the fastest thing ever but certainly not that slow.

My new iPhone was up and running in two hours with an iOS update, with 25GB iCloud data synched over night

What's the problem? It happens in the background.

It's not like your phone is offline while it's being done.

Actually you have to keep monitoring it.

The restore process pauses in the background if the phone heats up. It doesn't tell you this however. You have to go digging around the settings to see that particular bit of useful info.

Also, if you are heavily depended on Whatsapp for communicating with clients it becomes a problem, as Whatsapp is not available for use until the very end if you have a gazillion messages and attachments on it.

So WhatsApp is kak, tell us something we didn’t know.

I’m sure the restore will continue regardless as it manages its thermal requirements, but just like watching paint dry it doesn’t help if you keep staring at it.

Reviving this - I noticed that my Dad's ISP (RSAweb) is horribly slow when it comes to Apple downloads (0.1mbps) I useAfrihost and 50GB took about 2 hours

I was also the victim of iPhone theft and kept getting these SMSs never opened them but did check on the Domain and it is based in Russia

I had already activated Lost Mode, sent an Erase instruction (I got confirmation that it got erased once the idiots turned it on) , taken my XS Max out of my iCloud account, and asked Vodacom to Block the SIM and blacklist the phone.
