Clearly you've been protected from dealing with the real world then and have been fortunate enough not to know anyone personally who has committed suicide. Would you be saying the same thing if a family member committed suicide following them going through a tragic ordeal?

Sometimes all that is needed is just a drastic life change.
I made two drastic changes to my life in the past six months and I feel WAAAY better about myself than I felt before.
One of those was to stop smoking, and the other I am reluctant to share :p

Most normal people have thought about it. A shrink once told me this. If you haven't thought about it it's unusual.
 
Alright so please explain to me an instance where someone isn't depressed and commits suicide dablakmark8? I mean a previously healthy person by psychiatric standards. Not people with mental illnesses.
 
I know what you mean blunomore. I'm lucky that i didn't have fluctuating mood swings. I just had a deep sense of depression and lack of motivation to do anything.

blu.. oddly enough neither of those did :D.... it was Pooky's daft remarks.... I've been there, and I don't take it lightly when someone brushes if off like it was just a passing phase.. I battled through it and came out the other side after making LOTS of sacrifices and unfortunately hurting ALOT of people.

Sure, I understand. Same here. Depression is nobody's fault, but I still feel bad knowing the effect mine had on my mother.
 
Yeah....oddly enough it was the hurting my family bit that actually ultimately dragged me out of it...

My sis committed suicide because of an ordeal she went through. She wasn't depressed as in a feeling sorry for herself way, she just couldn't come to grips with living with the memories of what had happened. I still to this day don't believe she was depressed but I might just be fooling myself in all honesty.

I also tend to agree that it requires an element of depression for a person to take their own life - happy people just don't strike me as the suicidal type. However I have heard (via the grapevine) of an elderly woman who took her own life after her husband passed away. It wasn't that she was depressed at all, just that they agreed that the first to go would prompt the other to "join them". Like a disturbingly romantic pact of sorts. But that's an exception to the rule, I suppose.

I reckon most of us have been there before. What's great about hitting rock bottom is getting out of rock bottom, because every step you take is in the right direction and feels good. However that's the easiest thing in the world to say in hindsight - a lot more difficult to put into practice at the time and family are usually the ones to help you through then. They're usually the first you hurt and the last to leave your side...

Yes and no. I think what's being discussed here is traditional suicide though. Merely putting your own life on the line for someone in my books doesn't really count as suicide. Think of war time - soldiers are risking life and limb every day - if they're killed in the line of duty, do you consider that suicide?

I did not suffer the same ordeal, but I understand what you say about her. In many cases, depression can be brought on by PTSS.

Do U for one moment think that the person with a emotional state and mental strife consider that he/she/it is selfish? More than ever they believe by killing themselves they will actually do someone else or close family a favour.

First grow up and then comment. Obviously you never ended up with a situation where your mind completely overides any reason or logical thoughts.

Most around here are fully aware that it suffers from a lack of reason and logical thought in the first place...
