Surname changed without consent

Be very patient and friendy. Take a few days leave and try a few different home afairs until you get someone not looking for a bribe. Or negotiate the bribe down to R500 or something more affordable for you.

Then also start with the simple things like just replacing any documents destroyed in you house fire. Doesn't matter if it's wrong and go from there.

Sad that we have come to a point where we have excepted corruption and extortion as it it is normal.

Thinking about it some more - you might want to check your credit rating, I wouldn't be surprised if your identity has been sold/stolen.

I wonder why they can do it for R8000? Home Affairs is a pain in the backside. Need to go renew my passport, but everytime I go their system is offline. Useless.
That's why you go to the bank. My wife got hers super quick including new ID

If you've been doing so for the past 8 years why stop now, keep using your maiden name. My wife has her maiden name on her ID and her married name on her passport and no one has ever questioned it.

Your maiden name is still on your ID book, right?
Yes it is. But I want to get my drivers license soon and don't want it to have my married surname on the drivers license. My surname is my own identity and I feel like they stole it. And when it comes to getting the new smart id card I want the maiden name.

What if you get your birth certificate and apply for a smart ID with your maiden name?

Then if they f*** it up, you just complain until they fix it. Deny that you ever had your husband's surname.

Okay that's an idea, but when they process the application they will pick up the change won't they?

My mom has been trying to get her maiden name back for years now. Good luck with that. She also has all the correct documents. Home Affairs, like most systems we use. Are badly setup.
What is the reason that they won't change it. Is your mom divorced?

I'm sure they use the surname on your ID when you apply for a driver's so the licence will be in the name in your ID book. Speaking of which, if your ID book has your maiden name where is it that your surname was changed to your married one. You should be careful as bwana says and check identify theft. Could also be that HA are suspicious of your marriage and are viewing it as a marriage of convenience What with two other attempted marriages on your name.

The surname has been changed on HA SYSTEM

The surname has been changed on HA SYSTEM
As bwana says above, HA aren't in the habit of amending your surname without you or someone else impersonating you asking them to do it. Could also be related to those dodgy marriages you stated, maybe they found out someone tried to marry you off and on reverting they just changed the surname to your married one.

You should really go find out who asked them to change your surname.

The HA claims that after 5 years your surname changes automatically to your married surname, however, I can't find anything that states this anywhere.

Well someone did because these name changes don't just happen automatically when you're married.

Someone would have had to go to HA and changed it. If it wasn't you then you should be asking yourself who was it.
Trust me I have asked and they claim after 5 years your surname changes automatically to the marriage surname. Can't find out anywhere where this gets stated.

The other problem I am facing now is I am trying to get a loan from standard bank and when it comes to taking fingerprints it won't except them because the fingerprints are in my married surname. I went to the police station and got an affidavit. Hope that helps because they want a hanis verification letter from home affairs, but its going to show the changed surname surely?

obviously, whoever told you it's R8000 is looking for a bribe.

as a born ZA citizen, it makes me sick to see how "foreigners" walk into the Home Affairs "manager's" office, without having to cue up, like we citizens.

if you want to fix this, contact the Hawks/ SAPS and open a case of extortion, (possibly) you will come right

if you want to do things the corrupt way, get a foreigner to do it for you, except that it's going to cost you money
