SUV choices

The Tiguan new model is coming out very soon, so it's not ideal buying one now as you'll be driving an old model. The Rav4 is great value for money. My wife's next car.

If you don't mind a lack of refinement, questionable quality issues, below average resale value, and a parent company then buy a Jeep. FCSA are a bunch of ****s, that need to get their arses into gear.

The reason for looking to change the x1 is

1. The fuel consumption is high at 12l/100km
2. The motor plan expires later this year and it costs to extend
3. The tyres are due for replacement

So my idea was taking the money spent above and getting something else. But now looking at the options it may make more sense to keep the car and perhaps get a third party maintenance plan

What you're looking for is a mini SUV or a glorified hatchback.
Even a station wagon has more bootspace.
In that case Qashqai or Xtrail if there's a limited budget.
There'll be a shyte load of IX35's available when the Tucson comes out.

I see there's nothing under R250k for a 2013 or newer with low mileage. The only cheaper option is the duster and compass and both haven't really been suggested here

The Duster is a higher Sandero. It is French as well, so unless you want to trade it in for a lunchbar one day stay away.

That's rather narrow minded view of the Duster. The Duster is rather competent off road & boot space is excellent. It's a much more superior car/suv than the "higher Sandero" you claim.

It may lack outright sophistication but it's a competent; well spec; relatively affordable solid choice. Don't forgot a good warranty & service plan.

There is a reason there is so many on the road. My old man has one & he regularly does cross boarder trips.

At present due to the demand the resale is rather good actually

If memory serves me correctly, the duster is built on the old X-Trail platform which was very competent off road and a very reliable vehicle.

Duster looks nice from the outside but its inside is very basic, I'd rather have an ecosport or similar. This is my opinion on the car though, you might like it.

There's a lot of GWM's on the road, doesn't make it a good car. Compared to the alternatives mentioned here, the duster is probably the least reliable, with the worst after sales service of the lot. You buy it cause it's cheap.

Care to back that up with real world experience?

Check the after sales service surveys, Renault and Peugeot has been lingering at the bottom half for a long time.

Can I just check the three Renaults that my wife, myself, and my father own, and the fact that our experience has been absolutely perfect? My mom has a Jazz, and Honda have consistently failed to live up to their expectations of the brand. Does that count?

No it doesn't, because it's a sample size of 3 out of thousands.
