Suzuki and Toyota sharing some love.

Every time I see someone in a Toyota Tartlet I think to myslef that he/she must be a moron. This car had been on sale for yonks and all of a sudden it's a best seller. Only because of the badge.

Not by much, and with a shorter warranty, so those same people will probably pay extra for an extended warranty

Bit harsh to call them morons. The car is the same in terms of components and design but having Toyota backing means a lot more than having Suzuki branding to the buyers. Toyota components are easy to find and Toyota is generally known to last forever. Suzuki vs Toyota dealer numbers also means Toyota itself is easy to access should you have a problem. If I were looking for a Baleno/ Starlet I would buy a Startlet.

If you live out in the bush maybe, but there's a crap load of starlets in Stellenbosch, we have both a Toyota and a Suzuki dealer. That's purely just buying the same car with a different badge. The parts are even the same probably.

The parts are the same, I bet Toyota could strip it of all safety features, be transparent about it and state on the brochure what they have stripped out and people will still buy it.

We should face it, South Africans are lazy consumers and brands are more important to them than actual value for money offerings.

Do you also say this when you see someone in a Toyota Supra and a Mercedes-Benz X-Class?

South Africans are a brand conscious nation. So what if I want to pay for a Chinese made cap with an Adidas logo for 10x more than what it’s worth.

Hopefully Jesus had 'King' Price car insurance - or it's going to be a costly accident involving his Toyota Starlet, after testing its partial offset frontal collision NCAP safety rating on the N3 South near Harrismith....

That's NOT going to Buff Right Out!

In terms of adult occupancy protection, you’re better of in this cheap little starlet than your are in the 2020 BMW 1-Series - which only scores 83%, whereas the Starlet (Baleno) scores 85%.

- As per EuroNCAP

As per champie, I laugh at the fools with their nissan x classes. The supra is at least a diferrent shape, it's a coupe vs a convertible. The starlet is exactly the same, the only change is the badge and now all of a sudden it's everywhere. Morons, the whole lot of them.

Anyone who bought an X Class is a super moron.

I hear you. Not that I disagree, but calling them morons is a bit harsh. If you’ve got the money and want to be seen in the three-pronged-star, then leave them be.

Its like people who spend R3000 on a SMEG toaster...

Also by this logic, everyone in a non-performance Audi is a moron too? The VW duplicate has better standard equipment, cheaper, and holds it‘s value better. ;)

I don't get the free 1 year or 50k kms warranty?
These cars all come with a minimum 3 year 100k kms warranty and there was a promotional extended warranty.
On a side note, is there a thread for car specials?
