I have the supposed 4mbps line but it was down for about 2 weeks due to some hardware problems - apparently some clown drove over one of Telkom's roadside boxes. Anyway, since reactivation a couple of days ago I've only been able to synch at 2048 downstream.

My Snr and attenuation values are as follows:
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 42.5 25.0 db
Line Attenuation: 27.5 7.5 db
Data Rate: 2048 384 kbps

Any ideas how to get back up to 4mbps?

your line stats are very good. you should easily be able to get 4megs. The dslam at the exchange must have automatically dropped the speed down when the line was damaged. you should phone telkom and tell them to up the speed back to 4meg.

How do you check those stats? I'm on 384 but would be interested to look at those stats..

Phoned the 375 375 number and they unswered in less than 30secs, which gave me a good feeling already. They popped me back up to 4mbps :)

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin : 15.0 25.0 db
Line Attenuation : 26.5 8.5 db
Data Rate : 4096 384 kbps

It gets better :)

yeah, even at 4megs your SNR is so high that you will easily be able to hit 8megs on ADSL1 and much higher on ADSL2+ when telkom switch over to that standard.

just be careful hey...

if the 1 moment your SNR is on 35 and the next on 15 - you must look out for loss of sync..

i hate it when SNR does this - sound like my current problem - water on the line..yay
