Just a few thoughts on the tablet.
This is my personal view and i would like to hear other peoples view on the tablet.
First of i don't own one for the simple reason i don't see the point of owning one .
I don't have the time to read books or play games .
I have a couple of PCs and a couple of Netbooks and my trusty SGS2
My opinion is the price of tablets will drop dramatically very soon.

Just like to know am i missing some thing ??

Tablet is not a must have but if you are not a gamer and you don't want to switch on your laptop every time you check your mail or go on the web, it's quite handy... Albeit expensive.

I prefer my iPad and less powerful and smaller phone combination.

I have a tablet and no, it is not a must have. It is a nice to have, especially when you are away from home and dont have access to a pc with internet.

If you use your smartphone for browsing and apps like tapatalk then a tablet makes it a better experience. But obviously it's not a must have. It's a really nice to have though.

I find my netbook infinity better at everything my tablets do, with the exception of reading books - which my kindle3 is much much better at anyway. So no.
-> I suppose the main use of a tablet is to amuse kids while sitting in a restaurant.

Don't know about office work, but in uni it is a real treat to have around with you.
You can make pro lecture notes with audio recording, and wiki things between lectures.

What do you use?

Its a nice to have. Not essential. Got my tf101 from overseas for R2000. That's the only reason I got a tablet. I don't think I would spend R4000 plus locally on a tablet.

Only unique thing I've found (on iPad) without equivalence on PC OSs, is the magazine style content/article aggregation apps like Flipboard & Zite. Really nice way of catching up with news, however don't think they are worth the price of an iPad on their own.

I have thought of buying one but cant find a reason to buy one

I think you you'd better read the 3rd line of your question again and you may find your answer :)

I have an iPad, it's a toy...a very very nice toy but really not much more. Unless you are buying for a specific reason, then you really don't need one!

My 2c

I use mine extensively as do most members of the family. From streaming series to video surveillance to web browsing and email, gaming and tapatalk, remote support, ebooks and much much more.

Downloaded and stored on my pc and then streamed over the local wireless network to the iPad using airvideo...

You make it seem so sexy. Now I want one !!

I used to see them as a luxury. After a few months I find I cannot live without my tab.
I sold my Transformer today in preparation for the arrival of my TF Prime - and I am hurting ): The Prime cannot get here fast enough.

I don't have a laptop and I'm very used to my playbook, especially browsing with BIS on a big screen makes it great for me.
Also its a video screen for me when the wife or litie are watching tv.

Waiting for android support now.

Not a must have but I seriously "need" one for reading technical computer books ... work is sort of forcing me to start studying again and I simply don't see myself reading through 2-3 inch thick computer books sitting at a desk and there's no way in hell you can read one in bed. I've tried the included pdf's on a Kindle but basically it's too small and it feels akward. The 4:3 screen ratio of the iPad is apparently ideal for reading but I don't want to fork out R4400+ simply for a reading device (or get caught in the Apple fanboi trap).

Personally I'm looking for a 4:3 1024 x 768 8" - 9.7" Chinese tablet running ICS in the $150 - $250 bracket which is more in the price range I'm willing to pay but either stock is depleted or the device haven't been launched yet. Most seem to be using older A8 single core cpu's but for reading purposes and the odd round of Angry Birds it should be fine (I think). Hopefully a clearer picture on availability for these jobbies will emergence by the end of the month.

Unless of course I can get my stingy boss to buy me one ... then off course cost becomes a non-issue :D
