Takealot workers go on strike

If workers don't strike the owners will have all the power and they will always try to pay them the minimum and exploit them.

Unprotected strikes are a bad idea, but if these workers aren't in a union they should join or form one. No reason Takealot should be above the law. And the workers would be quite right to leverage the law to improve their circumstances.

Maybe Takealot should plan better so they have more permanent jobs and less temporary ones. There is no reason to applaud them if they're following Amazon's abusive employment practices.


And likely get the legal beating he deserved in response.


Or opportunity to change jobs. There seem to be a lot of muppets around who think everyone has a wide choice of employment.

It’s like everyone here forgets that the labour law applies to everyone in this country no matter the skin color or job type. I just get the feeling it’s convenient to say screw it they can all go and we’ll get new staff by breakfast tomorrow.

Fun fact even white people during apartheid had to deal with unfair treatment in the workplace so the labour law is nothing new that magically appeared in 1994. With this attitude you are not much better than the supposed racist takealot manager….

Fun fact: the labor law has been amended twice since 1994...and we're talking some major amendments.

Another fun fact: an unprotected strike is exactly that, so they CAN be fired and replaced.

How is this surprising? Today it’s more in line with European labour laws than the draconian ‘you’re fired on the spot’ American variety. Just like everything else as society changes so do its laws.
Obviously this doesn’t apply to the constitution of the US because that is holier than any scripture and is perfect in every regard (except for when it isn’t) :ROFL:

Entry level jobs with not much in terms of academics required. Despite this workers should be fairly compensated and should have a safe working environment where they are not subject to any racisim, verbal abuse or otherwise.

Except here you run a very high risk of things mysteriously catching alight at the place of employment should this happen.....

Probably one of the reasons we'll remain a 3rd world country forever.
 
We need to move towards greater equality, and with corporations like Takealot making record profits recently, how else are workers supposed to get a fair share and partake in the economy?

By getting a proper skill. Striking will only speed up automation. I don`t know how Amazon think they are going to operate in SA.

You armchair economist you. Don’t forget to light your next cigar. It’s a bit unfair to imply that if people don’t have a ‘proper skill’ in your book it’s fine to exploit them both on how long they must work and how little they get paid. It’s exactly for this mindset that we thankfully have good labour laws today. SA literally exploited the majority of the population in the past for the benefit of the few. That’s what Apartheid was.

Think about this. Perhaps working a labour intensive job for 8-12 hours a day for little money doesn’t exactly leave you much time to ‘get a proper skill’ somewhere else especially if you know…you are physically exhausted, you have to eat, sleep, buy groceries, etc. during your time off. You see if you work physically you may be tired. If only there was something you could do…to only work more reasonable hours and if laws could only protect you.

Just look at all out SOE's all employed by the colour of their skin and only black managers and supervisors? Just how well did that work out?
