You armchair economist you. Don’t forget to light your next cigar. It’s a bit unfair to imply that if people don’t have a ‘proper skill’ in your book it’s fine to exploit them both on how long they must work and how little they get paid. It’s exactly for this mindset that we thankfully have good labour laws today. SA literally exploited the majority of the population in the past for the benefit of the few. That’s what Apartheid was.
Think about this. Perhaps working a labour intensive job for 8-12 hours a day for little money doesn’t exactly leave you much time to ‘get a proper skill’ somewhere else especially if you know…you are physically exhausted, you have to eat, sleep, buy groceries, etc. during your time off. You see if you work physically you may be tired. If only there was something you could do…to only work more reasonable hours and if laws could only protect you.
