Interesting, you would think this is a huge deal as it makes it compatible with Apple Home which isn't listed as a supported platform.

Yeah I suspect it's maybe a website fail, but I found it here...

Maybe it's been added through a firmware update or something.

I mean Aqara has similar where they've added it later via firmware but it's not listed on websites or in any documentation you only find it in the release notes.

Generally the problem is that we need US-sized light switches but with 220v and that makes it very tricky.

How is that tricky? I have numerous sonoff switches and they fit without issue.

Tricky in variety as you struggle to view US-sized options that support 220v.

Sonoff and the Tuya stuff are about the only options.
