Hey all

I have been synced at 2mb on my 4mb account since I got my line about 9 months ago and I'm 3.1km away from an exchange. I've been on and off the phone with Telkom since I first got this line and it still hasn't been sorted. A new problem arose this week in which my connection would drop intermittently. Because this issue was caused by my exchange, Telkom freaked and phoned me about every couple of hours regarding the resolution of this issue and lucky me, the last guy I spoke with actually new what he was talking about. He then mentioned something that could be causing my sync problems. He mentioned that all the analog connections had to run through the filters. I was told our alarm company uses radio but was told today as well that's only when the power goes out so it also needs a filter. We have one filter and the alarm box thingy. iI'm posting links to photos where you'll see that it seems the phone is plugged into the filter, the filter then into the alarm thingy and the alarm thingy into the telephone wall socket. this does not seem right to me as the alarm does not run through the filter. I would like to know if I'm correct because it's obvious that the filter was put in before the alarm box which means they should come fix it for free as they messed up.

Thanx in advance for any help

iesh, a crow's nest you got going there man... :) can't quite make out, that black lead coming out of the filter, does it go to the alarm?

edit://
i read again, and it doesn't seem right. the way i understand it should go alarm/phone -> filter -> splitter/wall

lol. sorry. that crows nest is what the alarm company left me. the black cable coming into the adsl filter on the left of the picture is the phone. that big open box is the alarm company's baby. the filter goes in through the back, and connects to the alarm box, which then connects to the telephone wall jack. wait. i'll add some tags. haha

If the Alarm makes analogue calls like a normal phone would then you need to move the filter in between the Telkom wall socket and the Alarm small box. Then because the phone plugs into the alarm small box it would also be filtered.
