ISDN to ADSL conversion - Star date 0097.1
Telkom techie rocks up today at 7:45am wanting to proceed with the R437.50 ADSL installation (no appointment was previously arranged with me). Nice enough guy, just a dude doing his job but so restricted by Telskum policy that he can only do what the order says he is there to do. No deviation, even if it means the customer actually (God forbid) gets what he/she wants! Half asleep, I try to tell him as coherently as possible that I want a self-install and how can we go about this?
7:50am, Telkom techie phones the scheduling department and eventually speaks to the lady I have been dealing with there. (She sends the techies to their appointments in the LAU 14 area). No joy there, so the techie ends the call with her as 8am draws near...
8am, the 10219 line opens for business and the Telkom techie phones them to see if we can get some joy out of them. They tell me and him the same telkom-bs-story that I cannot have a self-install conversion from ISDN and that the way to do it would be to have 2 separate orders one after the other; the first downgrading from ISDN to analogue (ex-con as the techie phrased it) [costing just under R300] and after that order is completed, then make a self-install ADSL order.
Unless I can convince the Telkom gods to allow me to make this current order a self-install, and regardless of whether I pay R437 to complete the order or cancel the current order, I have to return the bloody Mega 100WR to the shop that gave it to me or else I will be billed for it (I believe it's R899). 10219 lady mentioned that the free router offer ends this month because "they are losing money" on it (YEAH RIGHT

). If not just another Telkom lie, obviously if I go the '2 orders' route I won't get a free router for my self-install efforts

[I do have a Billion 7300G anyways, but thought why not get a free router if they are giving them out!].
...I am so sick of this Telkom nonsense
Will sleep on it and hopefully make an intelligent decision about all this later today!
