Telkom ADSL speed upgrades

How will the people on 1Mbps be upgraded to the new 2Mbps profile? Telkom tells us the Exchange can only support 1Mbps lines. I'm connected to a UMC (tellabs) which is connected with fibre to the Exchange. And how to find out if the town will get Metro Ethernet or do we have it already? They seem to add more mini-DSLAM's to the network here after digging the main street up and conduits underground and manhole.

512? Does that still exist? Looks like you are running a 384kbps line and you should check that you aren't being billed incorrectly.
 
Line still on 384K, although was told by a family friend on Saturday, when going to upgrade to 1Mbit, who works at the Telkom shop near Kollonade that they had received emails that morning stating that the lines will be upgraded next month (July).

So I am really hoping he is right, so far I have not read anything indicating that he is though. Wait and see I guess?

Hopefully they will start it next month and just saying August in order to ensure that all lines are upgraded by then.
 
Mweb told me that they would release their pricing for their 2Mb accounts the end of last week. Its the end of this week & still nothing.

Surely for a company who "believe" they are market leaders they should have come up with pricing before anyone else?

Bergvliet, Cape Town (Eksteen Avenue, 021-713 number). Now getting 1mb speed from hitherto 384k line. Increased speed started on 12th June. Downloads seem to average 130kb/sec

You must be in the same exchange as the Telkom tech that is doing the upgrade. :whistle:
 
Its not where I live unfortunately, but I visited the house last night and the lady showed me, so I did a quick Speed Test and it confirmed it.

So the announcement from Telkom wasn't bs then...

They realized they had a problem when their price came in the same as afrihost's 4mb bundle ;)
