Telkom and Netflix in talks: source

first thought... oh goody... can get Netflix locally!
but then i think, how will it change my setup at home? not really... i currently run Netflix and Hulu via uncapped 1Mbps ADSL just fine, without Telkom.
I used to run through a US VPN which could at times be a bit slow in buffering, so would need to switch to the 4Mbps capped account.
but nowadays with the mediahint plugin into Chrome, don't even need the VPN anymore, so considering canceling that too.

Only benefit Telkom can give us, is if they have all the content locally, and we thus stream on a local connection, instead of from US .... but i doubt it will be free, and full content

WOOOOOW Thanks you, Thank You, this REALLY is way better than Hola and even Unotelly. Used Hola up until now and that would give me bad performance so 2 out of 10 times and I would have slow web browsing in general, but THIS is REALLY AWESOME.

No sports channels on Netflix and no series channel (Hulu)
Just waiting for 40 Mbps VDSL in George - so used to 10 Mbps DSL

Google gave me a nice sport channel for the rugby the other day when my father in law wanted to watch. Always a free alternative with google around. :)

I'll be very happy if Telkom can roll this out in an easy all in one package. It is basically how they do things overseas. One price for your internet and TV.

Erm, we can already access Netflix though? Setting up UnoTelly takes 5 minutes and is $4 per month. Been using this for months for Netflix and works great.

Having local replication servers via Telkom will mean better/faster streaming overall.

Where I expect to get shafted as with all other things is that our bouquet will get severely limited.

i've been trying different VPNs over past year to allow Netflix & Hulu, ... TunnelBear used to work well also, and one before that cant remember the name, but at times the connection to US got a little slow.
Currently have the StrongVpn account, think its $7pm for 3 months package, which also works very well, even on 1Mbps
But one day somebody on this very forum mentioned the mediahint plugin for chrome, and sure as ****, it worked.... no more "not available in your region".
So still just checking that it keeps working, then will cancel VPN subscription when its time to renew.
my daughter whatches a lot of netflix on living room TV (with PC connected by HDMI) on weekends. Only Netflix subscr sofar, only been watching the free stuff on Hulu (Grey's Anatomy :) ), but will probly get sub for it too.

So if Telkom can offer full NF package on local streaming, i'm sure they'll get many of us in on it.
Cant do Netflix on Xbox in room yet (no Chrome install :D)... so have to use laptop->TV

lol. Just pay the $4 a month for Unotelly to get the Netflix on your Xbox. Don't be so cheap.

i'll have to give it a try... havent really spent lotta time investigating it... setting up a special connection on Xbox to make the NF app work.... havent yet fully decided i want to use up my new games console for whatching TV, still have old laptop that i can rather sacrifice :)
but it does sound better to have less devices hooked up, that can do more.

these damn region restrictions remain crazy... its no secret how to get around the restrictions, so why tf do it? You'd think with a world economy as it is, everybody will want to get as much business as they can! "No you're from South Africa, we dont want your money"... wtf!

maybe Netflix and co, and VPN/DNS providers have special deal going on the side :D

I bet Multichoice will make sure to buyout exclusive rights for most good content
