Telkom - Capping To Soon!

Alternatively you could enable SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) on the router and then use something like PRTG Traffic Grapher to monitor the traffic going through the router. Just note that this isn't such an easy option, but its not too complicated to setup either.

Schitzo, install NetLimiter 2 monitor (which is free) on your PC and see if your PC isn't uploading to the Internet without you knowing. NetLimiter should be able to distinguish between local network & Internet by default.

i would try what pada suggested. perhaps you have a virus doing random transfers or a program doing updates in the background with out your knowledge. so with netlimiter you would be able to see what programs are transferring data and how fast

Ok, so I've changed the passwords to my router @ 10.0.0.2.

I've also changed my Wireless SSID & the PK String.

Is there anything else I need to change?

I purchased a 2GB card yesterday & sat on Facebook for 3 hours, downloaded a 20MB file & played on Aion for 6 hours. The 2GB's lasted me until the end of the day!

Previously that would last me 2 weeks on continuous use minus the 20mb file.

Get on your task manager and look at your network activity. Alternatively, and probably a better solution, would be to get Net Limiter (It's free). Once it's installed, open it up and see which apps are pulling bandwidth. Make sure your computer's not eating the bandwidth with updates (Adobe's notorious for this, especially since they don't bother warning you).
Unplug everything, other than the pc connected to the router, then see if there's an "Attached devices" or similar menu, which lists IPs currently connected to the router. If there's more than one, you have someone else piggy-backing on your wifi.

What devices are normally attached to your router and what line speed do you have?

Thanks for the Info guys! I've have NetLimiter & when I'm usually on my PC its just the usual things that come up along with Aion. Nothings really changed there as far as I can see.

AVG does the occassional update but the files are at the most 1mb. I've disabled Adobe & all other Apps that download with Zone Alarm.

I have a 4mb line & my PC is the only thing attached to the router at the moment.

I had this problem once before when I first purchased my line & after complaining & raising a **** storm at Telkom, it magically stopped. :(

last resort is you could get a telkom tech to change the password of the actual account to what you want. Be sure you can provide the ID number of the account holder. phone 0860 375 375, or is it 0800 375 3 75? i forget :)

Or, as mentioned earlier, he can just do it online at the TI website ;)

I am experiencing this also, I'm sure no one else is using my accout but day before yesturday I had to buy 2 gigs which got used in one night of normal browsing - no downloading. It's crazy.

Ok I'm in Westville too! I've just spoken to FOUR other ppl in Westville + Reservoir Hills that have the same problem.

I purchased a 1GB account. Have used it for LOCAL only & its finished in SIX hours.

Something seriously wrong here...

I decided to try my old 2GB account that I bought on Friday to see if it would work & now its working & not capped.

In fact both my PREPAID accounts that WERE capped are now uncapped & just showing a little over 200mb in useage.

I have had the exact same problem too...

3 gb's used to last around 2 weeks... now 5gb's last the same amount of time. Also just browse lightly and play cod4 now and then.

hope telkon isn't now trying to make up those lost gigs's by over counting the bandwith... :<

strange i use 5 gig telkom account and barely use 2 megs of it the whole month doing gaming browsing watching youtube and movies
