Telkom doing VoLTE yet?

Well, LTE does make provision for voice, it just came late. That is why I wanted to know if Telkom has launched VoLTE yet. With VoLTE the phone does not have to fall back to 3G for a voice call.
 
Dammit man, I wish they would deploy Volte now. I have full 4G signal at the house, but 3G for both MTN and Telkom is crap. So when someone tries to phone me, or I try and phone out then majority of times the call does not work because the phone cant find the 3G backup for Tellkom and cant switch to MTN roaming quick enough. Only thing I can really do is switch the phone to MTN 2G roaming only, but then data speed is k@k :(
 
Dunno if it's a thing, but I got the LTE-A uncapped telkom thing. The router has two phone jacks in the back, and the T&C's of the deal mention a call cost per minute?

If it is like our Vodacom BC LTE products, then it is a voip solution. We give you a geographical number (you can choose iether a 087 or a 011 / 021 / 012 etc number) So that is not Volte, just voip.

Yeah, that's what I thought, when I saw the call rates I was so shocked I never investigated further - something well over R2 a minute iirc
 
so found that to enable volte u dial *#*#4636#*#* nd then it goes into a funny menu. there is has a option that says enable ims registration. my understanding is that ims enables volte...but even with that selected it does not work...so guess telkom saying their ims core is live does not mean it is actually live for everyone. has anyone asked telkom to enable volte on their line? do they even know what it is?
 
ok...so phoned the call center...and he said they do have it..but to activate u need to go into a store. really? i said to him i want to actuvate it now and if i may please soeak to his suoervisor. after holding for 22 inutes they drop the call.

back to vodacom when this contract is up i am starting to think.
 
I think they are not ready yet, maybe it is in testing now.
But they are preparing system it, as IMS regisration is a required step.
Interesting findings, keep us posted.
 
Been testing it and it seems it's not working on lte. I can get incoming and outgoing calls but the connection from lte to 3g which drops the Internet connection.
 
Got a response from the Telkom rep on mybb. They do not support Volte IMS.

Glad I did not waste my time going into the store like the call center told me to. :mad:
