Currently have the following all from Telkom:
8mb adsl line
20Gb softcap data
Voice line rental
For the above I pay R700 give or take a few rands.

Telkom however offer a doPremium plan for R699 which includes the following :
10mb adsl line rental
100gb softcap data
Voice line rental.
According to the Telkom site however this deal is only available on a 24 month contract. Suppose because it includes a modem which I don't need.

So my question is simple.... Can I upgrade to this plan on a month to month basis instead of the 24 month con job?

Nope - I signed up for doElite Plus but got, because I never had the 24 month contract, separate line and data payments at a higher cost. Was told by a manager that I could not get the lower price without the contract.

Thanks for the info. Will stick with what I have then. Not a chance I will ever commit to 2 years with a business like Telkom.

And you cant phone them and ask to upgrade to 10MB and see if they expect you to take a 24month contract?
I upgraded last year from 2MB to 4MB by phoning them. But they could have changed over to a preference for contracts since then. But surely if you don't take installation and no new modem they should not expect you to take a contract?

This is my logical thinking too.

Non real contracts. They give you a free router, which is free if you subscribe for 24 months. If you cancel anytime before that you only pay the value of the router divided by 24 times the remaining months. Alternatively, if you don't take the router it is "month to month".

Bastards put me on a contract, I never got a free router, and when upgrading they created a new contract with a new logon account. When I asked them to cancel the old account they canceled the contract tied with that logon - there was like a R2200 penalty. So yea, even if you don't take the stupid router, the contract is real.
I never ever verbally or in writing agreed to any contract either.

How sure are you about this? I don't want the modem. Adsl already installed so no need for installation.

This is how mine worked. I will concede this was two years ago (at that stage it was like that for ages already). I also ordered an upgrade about a month ago, same story was explained and confirmed to me (line never got upgraded but that is a whole different story).

It is unfortunately evident from these forums that Telkom has completely gone to **** over the last year or two, so nothing is impossible.
