I have been trying to get some sort of clarification on the problems from Telkom without much success as they fault always seems to lie with the users PC according to Telkom.

Myself and my clients are having an interment connection problem with the Telkom email servers (or lack of them). All on ADSL and most on 4096 connections.
This seems to be an ongoing problem now that began towards the end of December.

1: Intermittent service. I will give you my example I have 3 Telkom email addresses.

2: If I can log on (intermittent remember) it will download 1 or 2 of the accounts and report an error the others. I will log back on right away (sometimes) and it will download the the other accounts and give a error on the 1st lot it downloaded.

3: As for my clients I have had to increase to the max the timeout settings, the mail downloads are so slow that if and when they can eventually log on to the Telkom POP3 server they were being timed out before all the mail downloads.

The location is Knysna on the Garden route and If it was just me and 1 or 2 clients I would not bother but it is effecting more and more people in the area.

The only advice that I have been able to give them is to be patient and try again later but this problem is just not being resolved.

Hmmm, funny thing that. I'm getting it at home with my Telkom account as well. Was looking forward to the usual 30 min wait before someone picks up, but I'll spare myself that now :(

It's only started with me more recently though (in KZN) and gives some error with the POP3 address. I'll try and get the exact description a little later....

I have been having similar problems with the Telkom Internet POP3 email servers for weeks now. Timed out and access denied are the favourite responses I get despite having set my email program (Windows Live Mail) to a maximum wait time of 3 minutes. Strangely enough their awful web mail server seems to work all the time.

My problems with the Telkom Internet POP3 servers occurs daily during office hours, but at night and weekends it works quite well. So surely it cannot be my settings :-)

When I phone them I get a recorded message that technicians are working to repair a fault on their email servers. My problems started just after Telkom Internet did a large maintenance job on the email servers just before Christmas. We wonder how many weeks it takes their alleged technicians to repair a fault.

Would be nice to have contact details of someone within Telkom Internet who can give us an honest answer, then we know whether to dump their email service and open a free email account with Google (Gmail).

Can anyone help please.

Same story here in Richards Bay, KZN. Been off more than on for the last couple of days, but definitely more off during OFFice hours. Can't access via Outlook or iPhone, regardless of whether at home, work, wi-fi ...

What is even more frustrating (yet no surprise) is the total lack of comment or info forthcoming from Telkom.

This is to confirm this problem with the mail server is now in its 3rd week (third week) thats correct .I have personally spoken to the minister of telecommunications office on several occasions and also to the CEO's office of TELKOM and they know about the problem but no apparent answers or date for this matter to be resolved can be made. Let me now your opinion and concern of what further action can be taken.
Many thank's
LM.

Based in Pretoria, and have been experiencing the same very poor email access for a few weeks now. As an earlier poster said, it is strange that the webmail service is working fine. I've been waiting patiently, thinking that Telkom will surely fix the problem soon, but it just isn't happening.
PLEASE, Telkom, we don't use email just for fun, we use it because we need it, and at present we are paying for a shockingly poor service!

Anybody having problems with Telkoms servers?

EMails routed via Juliet are fine but we get errors when routed via Cressida, Bianca or Cordelia, and the mail is sent to the wrong recipient.

We have solved our problem at the momentby cutting Telkom out of the loop.

Any one have access to SAIX i dont should be on there

Been trying to use SAIX for weeks now but the SMTP keeps on timing out, so I just gave up

I am also struggling with SMTP (i.e. mail sending) timeouts to (1) smtp.saix.net, (2) smtp.gmail.com as well as (3) my own SMTP server inside the JHB Hetzner data centre.

Sometimes sending works, most times it doesn't. On the same send I flick between SMTP's but it doesn't seem to make any difference. All that works is to keep re-trying (which is a bit tedious) or to try later.

Very frustrating...

It is nearly impossible that Saix and Gmail have problems in the same time. Using both Yahoo and Gmail for sending - no problems. When it happen simultaneously with browsing problems, then it suggests connection problems. Perhaps you should investigate it with 8ta.

Ja, my thinking exactly @sajunky.

I logged a ticket. An 8ta tech came around yesterday to collect info. He said the signal was fluctuating a lot, but aside from that he had no suggestions.

I've been experiencing disconnects too. This with a 3G router and static roof-top antenna.
