Telkom integrated data wallet launched

We're tired of Telkom Mobile trying to under-cut ADSL :-).

You will notice that this is a promotion. The promotional part is the 1:1. The final ratio hasn't been decided, but values of e.g. 1:3 may be feasible. We want to have it at such a point that:
- We don't lose too much money on it
- We don't motivate people to ditch ADSL, but rather be a complementary service
- Provide more value than competitors (both ADSL and Mobile)
- Give customers a better solution with fewer headaches/worries about going out-of-bundle, having data they can't use when on holiday etc.

If I can add one more:

- That you don't run it at a loss ever. You know the risks there. :D

Certain other ISPs are going to go a'running no matter what....

Now we know why the announcement of the functional divide between the business units recently came out. :D

"Spin off" - LOL

You clearly have some insider knowledge about this product.

Can you share any info about when it will launch?

The first customers who will get it are:
- Those with long-outstanding DSL bundle orders (e.g. those who have been waiting weeks for technicians to be dispatched to install)
- Those with a history of line quality problems

Those customers are being activated now, which is why some of the software changes *had* to roll out.

A launch open to other existing Telkom Internet customers will start in a few weeks.

I can't provide any more detail at this stage.

Damn, that will simplify life. We can have one internet account for the whole family across all our devices. If all this is true, I might have to drop Crystal Web, and that's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

You guys really need in increase the amount of concurrent connections on your SoftCap products though.

Also, are you guys planning something similar for businesses? This would be an awesome feature for them. Can definitely see the benefit of implementing this in my uncles business, they'd save a ton of cash.

Sounds really nice - just hope like hell there is never a serious billing issue as the support centers are SHOCKING!!

Very cool idea, I do dream of the day when the "physical network infrastructure" we use becomes more a matter of coverage & choice, so that we can buy one standard data bundle which works across any of those mediums at the same cost. I'd love to give this a try - seems like the right step in that direction

Is it possible to purchase a softcap account without a ADSL line installed? In other words, only purchasing the ADSL data? (I suspect not but dearly hope I'm wrong)

Hopefully the billing works properly, because a 100 gigs at mobile out of bundle data prices is going to be rather brutal. What is it now, R2 a meg? That's R200 000 per 100 gigs.

So evidently, the title was misleading. When does this actually get launched then - next month only? ... :/

Telkom Mobile does not go out of bundle, you get stopped and need to chose on a website if you want to go OOB or add on more data first.

I can second that.

I'm on Telkom Mobile, using the Internet Start Pack.

Once I reached my 1GB for the month I was cut off.

I got an SMS saying that I can't to continue going online as I've reached my cap, and it gave me a few options, one being purchasing an additional once off data bundle.

So no OOB shark with Telkom Mobile. Which is the way to should be done. Props to TM for actually doing it though.

And when I mentioned this last year in one of the other threads I was called an idiot...
